Would you consider moving to an Independent Scotland?

Scotland moan about being hard done to by Westminster

Where is the ENGLISH PARLIAMENT?

Where is the Free ENGLISH university places?

Where is the Free ENGLISH prescriptions?

Where is the St Georges Bank Holiday Weekend?

England doesn't even have an official national anthem

Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales do extremely well for being approx 14% of the UK population

Remember 86% of the UK is English, if anything we have the bad deal

And that's not forgetting if you dare put an England flag up, you're right wing, racist, etc, etc - any other of the nations though, they can fly their flag as its national pride

Where is the ENGLISH PARLIAMENT?

Where is the Free ENGLISH university places?

Where is the Free ENGLISH prescriptions?

The English have had opportunities to vote for these but voted against them. - so don't blame the Scots

I would love to know what the effect would be if an SNP sympathetic party campaigned in the North or England, ok independence wouldnt be a vote winner but devolved powers away from Westminster may be.
I have lived in Wales for a short time and they would be better placed with an independence from Westminster maybe linking up with Scotland. I now live in Devon and can confirm that Devon & Cornwall see themselves as separate from Westminster although they are very conservative (not the party).
In essence when you move 100 miles away from London. the feeling of remoteness with the decisions made within Westminster increases.

We live a few miles from the border with Scotland: Loads of people we know from the English side have purposely moved just over the border since devolution for free university education and other attractions.

Assuming Scotland joined the EU, I would be looking for a Scottish passport, which I would be entitled to via my parents.

Seems I am a winner on this thread, I was born in Edinburgh to Scottish parents, I am Scottish, I even like to see scotland trounce england at football, or at least I think I do, it's been such a long time, I can't quite remember how it feels.

Said almost with tongue in check, but this is not untypical of a brexit supporter. We must be out of the EU, but I'll get an EU passport regardless ;)

The die was cast with devolution. Labour basically killed labour. All the vote winners they have in England count for nothing in Scotland. Particularly amongst the younger voters. Lesser housing crisis and no tuition fees. Thanks Tony. (y)

With the Scottish underdog spirit they have been able to cast their independence as a progressive move, as opposed to the self loathing UK independence from the EU, which is seen as vastly reductive. I think another one would go through.

I just hope it can be settled without recourse to violence. Scotland we can shift no problem. Wales? No one really gives a **** either way. But Ireland? **** me. Bunch of irretractable b***ds there on both sides. The only hope is most of the younger Irish people I speak to are so utterly embarrassed and sickened by sectarianism there may be no return to the dark ages. Mind you it may have been like that in the 70s for all I know. It only takes a minority to stir up hatred.

What I do find ridiculous is the idea that holding a referendum over and over until you get the result you want is democracy. The referendums need to be far less vague - one on the concept then one on the terms of need be, and also need to be binding for a reasonable period of time.

Should be thinking if the Scots would want you all in the first place... instead of just rocking up expecting to move in. Soon be back if it went t*ts up no doubt though 🙄

Find it funny how it’s stated they didn’t vote for a Tory government... they also didn’t vote for a labour one either which most posters on this thread want. So you can’t blame them either way for wanting to leave as they’ll never get the government they want

If they achieve independence then it's a nailed on Tory majority for all future general elections. We'd essentially become a one party state.

The Tories would have to monumentally F up not to win if the Scottish seats were no longer a factor. Even now with the incompetent idiots lurching from crisis to crisis labour wouldn't win a majority. I'm not sure how much worse it has to get to put some people off, but suspect the answer is "a lot". In 4 years labour will probably still need a coalition to govern at best. If that's with the SNP you can imagine what the deal breaker would be.

I'd think the attempts to get south of the border would be stronger than the other way.
It has always been the case.
Scotland so great, but not great enough for them to actually want to all live there.

Indeedio, I looked to see if this was true, do you have some numbers from somewhere - not disputing it, just wondered what migration between england and scotland looked like

This seems to be precisely the Scots position, though rather sensibly they are going to hitch themselves back to the EU rather than their southern neighbour basket case.

As for immigration, they are proudly welcoming.

What I would also add is I like how as a nation they know how to be patriotic about their country, flag, national heroes, produce, etc without thinking that somehow makes them superior to others and thinking

You do understand Scottish politics right?

You’d have to go back to the fifties to find the last time they voted Tory as majority.

Since then they have always voted centre left, with the SNP replacing Labour as the party of choice.

Not going to happen. Most intelligent Scots know that when push comes to shove :-

No currency
Military shipbuilding would be moved to UK
No more subsidies, therefore free further education ends and free prescriptions plus many more things.
Regiments disbanded.
Balmoral ?
It would be a disaster and there.is zero hope of the EU letting them join. Except perpahs to **** the rest of the UK off.
