Will Spence be our biggest ever sale ?

And also - Spence is a problem child.

I still don’t understand how or why, as he doesn’t seem the type, but Warnock bombed him as quick as he could and Wilder obvs agreed, or we’d have had him back in January.

Yeah I wonder a bit if we have to be careful what we wish for down the left i.e. whether our more steady approach down that side allows is to overload on the right. Probably not though, stretching teams in all directions has to be better, but we would just need to be diligent in terms off not everyone pushing on
Yeah I agree, It does, but we could still do with having the option I think, makes it harder to set up against us. We would have to control which side we're attacking from mind, as if they both go forward, it can get us into trouble.

Why does everyone assume we are going to sell him? Why would we want to sell him? Surely it would be best for us to keep him and see if we can incorporate him into our team. If we could then we would be better team because of it.
We'd be better selling a 12m second choice player, and buying one, two or three players who will make a big difference in areas that we really need. If we blew the 12m on crap though, that would be bad, but recruitment seems to have got much better.

Not much point trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole. People would be paying 12m, on the assumption that Spence will get better, and good enough for the prem. If we played him on the left, he likely wouldn't be as good and it would take his value down.

Because he has one year left on his contract, is not likely to sign a new one and bringing him back would mean having to play out best player out of position to accommodate him. On top of that the club has lost a lot of money the last couple of years and if we don’t go up any significant investment will need sale(s) to fund it and he’s one of our most saleable assets now.

Yup, I've been saying that for ages.

If teams don't double up on Jones he sometimes even ends up as a high forward, Tav sits deeper/ wider and has the fitness to cover left, Taylor drops back, the defence all move right one, and Dijksteele ends up behind Jones, or it goes like the 4-4-2 like you say.

Absolute classic case of the outside players, rotating anticlockwise around the centre. The funny thing is, what really helps this is Tav's fitness as he can cover so much ground all game, sort of gives Crooks an easier time to get forward too, which is why him and Jones combine so well.

The problem is when teams do double up on Jones, with Bola out we can't press on much from the left with Taylor, so it cuts our options down. Having Bola back over there will help once he gets into the swing of things, but Taylor's been good dropping back left, when Jones has been able to push up high right.
Fair points. It's true that with Taylor tucking in it allows Dijksteel to get forward to support Jones. But then it does weaken our threat left side. Perhaps the long-term answer is the shape we played when McGree was fit with him in Tav's position and Tav left wing-back.

I think it could be the answer but not all the time, against a good attacking right winger Tav would get mullered, we would need to pick and choose the games we used him there.

Can’t he play in the offs for them (if they get in) as loans normally only run till the end of the season don’t they.

They've changed the rules with that now.

Loan signings remain registered with their loan club until the next transfer window opens now, rather than the end of the regular season.
So he wouldn't he able to play against us, but he'd be able to play against other teams.

We'd be in a bit of bother ourselves if that wasn't the case, as 3 of our 5 strikers are loanees.

Yeah, I think we will have our eye on that, Tav could be really good on the left, but McGree would need to really step up in the middle, as Tav has been awesome there.

Would possibly be best just keeping it how it is, as we will need a centre mid rotation, the lads in the middle now must be knackered.

If you notice our play, we tend to overload the left hand side and try to drag opposition players over. This tends to leave space for Jones to exploit and the ball is whipped over to him.

I also think the overlapping centre half confuses everyone and no one knows whose man he is. ;)

I'm also loving how rival fans are saying 'that Spence is some player' and 'you'll do well to hold onto him'

The large majority thinking he's a forest player😂. You then see random Boro fans commenting saying 'Boro will do well to hold onto him' lol.

I bet he will be gutted if we got them over the two leg semis. A bit like Gallagher at Palace. He must be fuming they drew Chelsea.

Yeah, the "attack" down the left is a fake move, just to free up space on the right, for now anyway.

It's similar to playing it round the back, or playing backwards. This is what loads don't understand, we need to play it around the back and for teams to come to us, to give us space behind as we find it hard to break teams down when it's congested up the top of the pitch. People see it as negative, but it's not against teams that can't press very well. The only player who can do any damage when it's congested is Jones, but it's difficult for us to get the ball to him high enough.

Also, the problem with trying to draw oppo players out is sometimes is some teams are really good at pressing, or do not give you any space, and we're not great at passing out of that, like what happened against Sheff Utd.

As well as serving to create space for Jones, it tires out the opposition. They can't just ignore our right wing overload, they have to shift their defensive low block over, usually requires 8 players to move over to that side of the pitch.....then when we play it into the middle and switch it to Jones, they have to work really hard to shuffle over to that side of the pitch.

This has an impact on those teams, and takes the legs from them in the last 20 mins of games.

Yeah, the "make the ball do the work" is good, but it's a funny saying as it has more of an effect on the opposition.

This is also why I don't gripe against our forwards not scoring as much as some others, basically as they run their nuts off, and then we have like for like on the bench. Sets us up well for the second half when players tire, and hopefully the oppo benches should be weaker than ours.

Tiring teams out is absolutely critical now, if you can capitalise on it.

Just been talking about him on talksport...

Good enough for man u or Liverpool was pretty much the conversation.
