Will Spence be our biggest ever sale ?

Think Traore is at the moment at £18m, but someone who couldn't even cement a place in our first team could become our record sale in the summer if the rumours are to be believed.

Meaningless record, unless there exists an index of footy transfer fee inflation. Perhaps the sanctioning of Chelsea will bring about some deflation for a change.
Lizard's point taken too.

Apologies to all concerned.

Could be possible. Amazing really what this year has done for him (and us in a roundabout way). I don't think anyone could have imagined this turn of events. I wouldn't have said he was a one million pound player when he was with us. Shame he never produced what he has for Forest in his time with us (just semi-promising displays touched with poor defending), but we should definitely sell in the summer as likely will be the case. 15-20M would be brilliant if we could get it. Most likely be about 10M with add-ons.

Probably because it has so many variables in terms of how the fee is paid, length of contract left etc.

However it's still a "fact" that is related to the club and that was all I was thinking with my original post, and to start a discussion, it's just certain posters think it's cool to just leave glib answers without any real contribution to the thread.

The price of a footballer as in a car must be it's value. In theory the more you pay, dependent on how much a contract is left, the better player you get.

This BTW was disproved the day we bought Davenport.

Brighton bought Adam Webster for £20m a couple years ago, Spurs bought Ryan Sessegon for £24m, Villa bought Ollie Watkins for £30m!

There's no reason why we shouldn't be looking at £20m onwards for Spence given the plaudits he's been getting and the teams he is being linked with.
Spurs nearly paid £15m for berahino who is now in league one

I think if Spence just continues in current form he will go for a minimum of £20m as there will be competition/auction.

Ideal situation: We make playoffs. Forest make play offs, we both win our semis.
Spence plays blinder scoring and assisting in both legs of Forest semi.
Jones assists four times across our Semi.

Middlesbrough then deny Forest appeal to play Spence at Wembley in Play Off Final, chuckling.
Middlesbrough then thrash a Spence-less Forest 4-0 at Wembley Play Off Final to get promoted as new FA Cup Winners.
Bayern Munich agree to pay £20m plus add ons for Spence.
Gibson chortles as he rejects £10m offer from smug Levy who says he won't be held to ransom.

I think we would have got more for Traore had it not been for the fecking release clause.

I keep reading 12mil for Spence. Surely not? It's gotta be 16-18mil. Matty Cash went for 16mil and most forest fans say Spence is better.

He's young and English (U21 call up).

Hopefully he has a blinder against Liverpool👍

rather see him and Jones play in same team - for us
I've got a sneaking suspicion that wilder will sort this out. Unless of course we need to sell an asset to raise funds for FFP or new transfers, then Spence is the obvious one to go.

Spence is far better than Matty Cash.

25 mill. Spurs just paid a fortune of Emerson Royal and Spence is better than him as well

It's a shame he feels as if he's burnt his bridges here. He is a natural wing-back - as opposed to Jones who's a winger through and through for me. Obviously some beef went down with Warnock and I can't say I'd blame Spence if this is the case: Warnock rubs a lot of people up the wrong way. It's also probably true to say that living in Nottingham is attractive to a young London boy - he can get back on a Saturday night in two hours and spend the weekend with his mates/family.

Forest could go up the form they're in and then he may well wish to stay. You'd hope they wouldn't try to use this to try and get him on the cheap.

On the subject of winger/wingbacks, Wilder's formation straitjacket does concern me a little. I get the idea that coaches these days like to impose a tactical blueprint on the entire club, but defensively our most consistent period in recent times was for a time last season when we had a back four of Dijksteel, Fry, McNair. Bola, and the ability to go to a back four, especially when we're behind, whilst it doesn't completely release Jones from defensive duties should get him higher up the pitch. It would be ironic if the source of Spence and Warnock's difficulties were Spence's inability/unwillingness to adopt the kind of right-back-style defensive discipline that Warnock's successor might have released him from

Hard to predict the fee, isn’t it?

I’d say Sessegnon is a good comparison and was seen as the better prospect when he moved, but that was a few years ago and fees have increased again.

Really hope there’s an auction. That could take it north of £20m.

How lucky are we. Selling a player for that amount of money can pretty much clear you for FFP for years and fund a promotion push - and it’s not even like we’re losing one of our key players. He’s barely played for us, is obviously out on loan and we have a (better) ready-made replacement. It’s free money with no consequences for the current team.

I imagine he would be having the same season with us had we got Wilder in the summer. He would be every bit as exciting as Jones. Although not sure where Jones would have fitted in.

He is absolutely a Wilder wingback. It's a shame that either Spence of Jones weren't left footed. You imagine that? Frighting having one on each side.

We are lucky in that we have arguably (if not definitely) the two best RWBs outside of the prem. They are both young and worth a small fortune. So I imagine one will be sold to assist FFP or to help bring one or two signings in.

15-20mil for Spence is great money for us. I just hope we load that with various clauses (international caps / 15-20% sell on etc). I'd hate to see him go for 15mil then have one or two good seasons and go for 60-70mil+ when City or Newcastle get interested (still don't seem right saying Newcastle 😂).
