Wilko on the Brink - 12000 Jobs At Risk

This would be a complete disaster for so many people who rely on this shop for jobs and for goods in towns. Extra help has to be found to keep town centres alive or you are going to have millions of people with limited access to everything they need in life.

I've always liked Wilko. I have noticed in the past couple of years that the stores have looked very sad. Sparse and run down with fewer products. These are stores on Teesside and in London. You'd go in looking for one thing and come out with a lot more.
I feel for the people at risk of losing their jobs.

They can go to bandm, boxes, home bargains or any of the other shops that sell pretty much the same stuff.

They have been struggling to resupply stores as some insurers have not been providing cover for supplies to Wilko. It is sad the way things going and the figures just released for high Street footfall are not yood.

Lets face it - Amazon has just changed the way that a lot of people around the world do their shopping. The only real shop I regularly go to is the supermarket and even then a lot is ordered for delivery.

Not good but difficult not to blame yourself as habits change. I probably visit Wilko 2-3 times a year and rarely buy anything. Amazon, at least 2-3 purchases a week, if not more..

Sad news, staff in my local are always really helpful, nothing too much trouble. They are usually Town Centre based, business rates will be hurting and as said budget and pound shops will hurt their trade. I hope they can be saved somehow for the employees more than anything. What a feckin country we’ve become.

Apparently they want to go into a cva and not pay any rent to landlords for three years. Don’t think that will go down well. No doubt a negotiating ploy to use. I guess it’s another private equity type of company carrying loads of debt.

This one's been rumbling along for a long time.
Can't see it surviving, big shame but the family who owns it (The Wilkinson's) are an absolute **** take. Took £3 million (2.25 going to the former) on divis last year despite at the time attempting to secure 30 mill in alternative lending due to shortfall.
2023's Woolies, as I've said previously and been bitten for, we're at the edge of serious bad times for the UK.

Lots of big B&M and Homebargain stores popping up which can’t help.
Homebargains (or Home and Bargain as I still insist on calling it) are just about to open another absolutely immense warehouse, off the M62 near Warrington. They seem to be going from strength to strength

Same, half the shelves have been empty for ages.
