Wilders Watford Meltdown

Thanks for the link op, great stuff 🙂.

But, riddle me this, if Watford only scored 1 and conceded 3, why does a photo half way down the article have this caption:

"Ryan Porteous of Watford celebrates after scoring the second goal for Watford"?

(Well I suppose it is a Reach website....)
Think he also mentioned blowing a two goal lead at Coventry at the weekend

Makes you question if he really did know what he was walking into doesn't it?

But I find it hard to believe a man with a curriculum vitae like his wouldn't have known. Because that would imply his football acumen is actually a bit **** after all.

All very confusing to be honest.
Interested to see where he goes next, Scottish football by the looks of it. Can see that going well for him….

Not

The hatred for Wilder aside, there is actually something in what he is alluding to.
I've never understood how the Watford model could yield long term success. He talks about 20 individuals and them not being a team, how could they be when they change managers so frequently, and presumably with each change comes a change of style, formation, tactics etc.
The players must get to the point where they don't give a stuff about what the manager is trying to achieve, they know he'll be gone soon and it will be all change.
I'm no Wilder fan, but there have been better managers than him sacked by Watford, some good Managers too, and with each sacking, being sacked by them becomes less relevant to a manager's CV.
No, Wilder is an irrelevance to me, it's the Watford ownership and the Watford model that I really dislike.
Great post, in fact they’ve sacked two better managers than Wilder already this season and one of them has secured a play off spot with their fiercest rivals. Watford could really start to unravel if they don’t go up next season.

"The defending was terrible. We were playing a team that weren't on a great run and we wanted to get out of the traps, but we certainly didn't do that.
The decision-making tonight, for all three goals, was really poor.
If you give a team that's struggling a bit of a leg-up, then they fancy it. I think we would have fancied it if we'd been handed three goals on a plate, because that's what happened.
There's so many individual errors. There was a nervousness and edginess about us"

Wilder's thoughts the last time one of his teams conceded 3 first half goals at home to a struggling Cardiff side..................us 13/09/2022!!

Maybe you're the common denominator Chris.

Definitely isn't but he knew what he was getting himself involved in.

Easy for him to shrug it off now and claim it's an impossible job but I get the feeling he will probably believe there was nothing he could have done differently to change the situation and is completely blameless.
Wilder believes he is Teflon - coated!

"I’ve never stopped individuals doing creative aspects for the team at the top of the pitch. Our goal summed that up."
- Players being creative and it working - Wilder's genius.

"“Then all of a sudden everybody wants to flick it and do their own thing. People are playing out of position, hitting cross-field balls, and you lose your rhythm quickly."
- Players being creative and it not working - Player's fault.
Reminds me of Muniz having that shot from halfway against Watford, he nearly scored didn't he? Then they went and scored the winner. He brought it up in the post match interview.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Favourite for the Hearts job next season 😄 . If only he knew when he was giving it Billy big b0llocks when asked about Burnley that he would soon end up in the SPL 😄. I really hope that happens as it should go some way to sorting out his massively over inflated ego.
I do wonder if, with the benefit on hindsight he would have
a) not taken the boro job, or
b) quashed the Burnley links immediately last year.

I suspect his ego and lack of humility would dictate a). He was far bigger than a tiny club like ours and taking the job has trashed his reputation. Not his conduct while he was here. And too stupid to know a good thing when he had it.

He’s not a very good manager. Garry Monk dressed up as Tony Pullis.. not a patch on Neil Warnock.
I'll be honest Newy, I enjoyed most of the second half of last season. The attractive play, the winning run, the cup run.
Even with hindsight I wouldn't swap that for another 6 months of midtable drudgery with Warnock.

This season is irrelevant for comparison purposes because Warnock wouldn't have been here anyway. But at least Wilder brought Akpom back into the fold 😉

It must make him die a little inside each time he watches our "developmental players" hand out a battering to the opposition most weeks. We'd have been lucky to avoid a relegation scrap under that idiot with Hackney probably loaned out to Darlo.

Loan ?? I think he’d have gone on a free

Thanks to Warnock and his signings.

Wilder was dreadful.. glad some people can now see that.

I dislike them both.

Plus if he has disdain for the Watford model so much then why go there at all, as everyone knows what the craic is there?

Oh hang on, that would be because he's a greedy barsteward. And he's fast becoming a joke because of his greed. Ironically him and that club are made for each other, no loyalty in any way. He should actually feel right at home there.

I dont care who signed who. I just don't think we would have experienced those exciting 6 months with Warnock in charge.
It is easy to forget how good we were under Wilder for a while. How it all ended is a different matter.
But I suppose the weird journey of Woodgate > Warnock > Wilder has led us to where we are now, with Carrick. Who finally looks like the correct answer.

Especially if he fcks that up too.

I wonder if he has considered changing his name to Chris Vilder……

No cigar for Spence? Carrick with a Prem start with the Boro! What’s not to like?

You‘re going to have to explain that post to me unless I’m thick and have missed something obvious?!
