Why the big Crowds this season ?

We were getting crowds of 22-23k in the 2007 prem season (1 prior to relegation) unless a big team or local rival came to town

We do owe a lot of gratitude to Karanka for the turnaround in our attendances to be honest.

It's crazy to think we were averaging crowds of 13/14k under Strachan and Mowbray. How did it get that bad?

Since our promotion season we haven't really dipped below an average of 20k. Think the only time we might have was when Woodgate was in charge.
Boro fans only turn out if they believe in the team.

Maybe people just like the overall experience of going. It is remarkable that there is more football on TV than ever, (legal and illegally streamed/watched) there is the realistic, quick gratitude content of video games too... yet crowds hold up.

For clubs like us, well beyond parachute payments, a steady crowd size is the financial foothold which might lead to getting the better players we all like to see.

Crowds definitely up since Lock down at Boro and most other grounds.

I don't believe the Carrick effect is responsible for the bulk of the increase as we were averaging 25k under Wilder - maybe Carrick is responsble for 1.5k increase and seeing more Boro goals at home

I think our increase in performance has helped we have gone from 18th? to 12th to 7th to 4th - I noticed quite an increase after beating MU and Spurs in a month. When we played Chelsea, fans came back that hadn't been since the Premier League games in 2016 some since 2006.

The increase in crowds also shows price is not the most important factor in crowd sizes, football is definitely different to petrol with regards pricing and demand. Our prices have risen but so has demand. The key for me is having a winning team and the belief that slightly better times are ahead.

When Boro fans are given a bit of hope and see the team playing good football and scoring lots of goals then the fans always come in good numbers. Terrific support both home and away for a not so big town in the poorest part of the country

If we get 30k for Saturday the seated area will drop for 5k in the 40th minute as loads dash for a pint. It’ll stay 5k less in the seats until minute 50 too.

We've come a long way since the 9k-12k etc under Strachan. I'm sure some of those attendances were fabricated.

We are definitely pulling in a healthy home crowd. Also demand for away rockets is as high as they've ever been. I'm not overly sure why? It's not like we are running away with the league etc.

So far play to all who attend. It's great to see 👍

The home support was really set in March, when we sold 22k? season tickets.

Away from home we failed to sell out Coventry, Sheff Wed, Watford (just), Norwich.
At the end of August we had sold 'around 21,000' season cards, according to MFC, with a few days left on sale.

We're fun to watch, even when it goes wrong on the day you can see what we're trying to do. Karanka did great but we weren't great to watch, that playoff final loss season I was jealous of the attacking style Watford and Bournemouth had. More potential for something special at present.
