Why have we changed our style

I think poor Johnny Is running on empty I am loathed to criticise the guy because he has been player of the season. Crooks looks dead on his feet and out of form as well. Mcnair looks like he's carrying an injury and is not making the extra man in the midfield overloads. The crux of the matter is there is not enough quality or depth to the squad to play the wilder way

Playing Daniels instead of Lumley means we don’t pass out from the back…..found to be that little bit short again…..which tbf will be the case next year unless we scout a decent centre forward!

I think it’s more to do with desire. Look at Rhodes today !
He wanted it
He certainly looked up for it, but the bloke behind me said he's only scored one other goal this season: he's finally playing like a real Boro striker, gawd bless 'im.

Time to bring in fresh legs then . Payers, Gibson, Boyd Munce and Coburn to name four sets of fresh legs to lift the side. Also T , Siliki and Sivvi could add additional fresh legs . Now is the time

We simply do not have the energy to play that way anymore, season has caught up with us by 3 leg sapping cup games. Losing key players at key times and having 4 endlessly rotated shot shy strikers.

When Lumley waved the shot in against Hull, our collective confidence has evaporated.
Let’s not forget, we have been 2 players down since before august

McNair typified this today hardly crossed the halfway line but a few weeks ago he was charging forward to look for chances and create space in around their box.

So what’s behind the reversion to old ways.
Over the last few games, McNair’s typified the tedious sideways passing. He looks good when he marauds forward (sometimes) but he’s not a creative passer. We have too many journeymen.

Yesterday we had a left-footer playing on the right (McGree) and a right-footer playing on the left (McNair). Neither looked comfortable. If we'd played 4-4-2 however, we could've had:
Dijksteel - McNair - Bamba - Bola
Jones - Howson - McGree - Tav
Watmore - Sporar

Sometimes you have to be prepared to tweak the system to suit the personnel available. For a start that helps relieve Jones (our main weapon) of many defensive duties

Lots of reasons

Fatigue - Energy sapping cup games, Paddy playing non stop including Ireland

Injuries and suspensions to key players, Fry, Jones, Crooks

Creativity, We are a one trick pony

Individual errors at key moments

lack of consistency

Lack of height on set pieces

Set pieces - Wilder took Paddy off set pieces and our creativity has lessened as a result

Mental strength - I think we lack confidence since Fulham defeat. The players are scared to shoot, nobody wanted to take responsibility, sideways and backwards passing was prevalent throughout the last 2 home games in particular.

Physicality - We have been bullied by some teams this seas

Strength in depth - self evident

Quality - lacking throughout the squad. A few fans seem happy to accept it, the support of Lumley is just one example.

Recruitment - A curates egg

Oh I can’t be bothered to keep writing, I feel so flat.

I hope they were deflated yesterday. Play offs were in our hands and we have probably thrown it away. The goals from set pieces from Fulham and Huddersfield shouldn’t be conceded and Lumley cost us against Hull. We seem to have run out of steam again much like last year. Only Tav really showed any fight yesterday. Wilder might be losing the dressing room somewhat too, don’t expect we’ll see Sporar or Lumley in Boro shirts again. All in all a disappointment, but I have enjoyed this season and….Sheffield United seem as keen as us on finishing sixth, so who knows?!
