Why did they settle for 1-1?

Was it just me who felt like the team, specifically the lads down the right-hand side and in front of our dugout, settled for the 1-1 draw despite being in the ascendency after equalising? We had a string of throws down the right over the course of the last few minutes and we're faffing about, waiting for Fisher or Spence to pick it up and drop it and pass it back to the other one before strolling up the line and killing the game off. Do they know we need to win games or have they just accepted it's all about next season?

I just don't get why they would work so hard to restrict Watford and get back into the game and then settle for 1-1 in what was a must-win match.

We didn't threaten once in 100 minutes of football from open play, bar one Saville header blocked by our own player.

We got a goal from nowhere against the second best team in the league, packed with Premier League players, I'm not surprised they decide to hold on for the point in the last few minutes.

We went for a second in the first 5 minutes after we scored and then decided to shut up shop when nothing was created.

Its their mentality.
They shouldnt need a kick up the backside - thats the difference between "average" and class.
Its a sloppy attitude.(n)

I wish the lad well, but Spence just doesnt cut it for me.

Well according to the Sky pundits it was the Boro management team instructing the players to slow it down.

Even near the end of the game at our throw in, the staff just let the ball go through their legs rather than throw it back. Unlike Watford who were quick to recycle the ball. I know we are not going up but have a go at least. When the crowd gets back they will be baying for blood if they keep fannying about like that.

Playoffs may have been incredibly unlikely going into this game but that slight chance would have been kept alive if we had won. As far as I'm concerned, as long as there's a chance, it's worth fighting for. So for us to equalise and then time waste, clearly grinding out a point is just shocking. What's the point in that? It's a pathetic mentality.

If results go our way we are still 6 points off the playoffs, if they dont go our way we could be 9 points off (possibly more if b’mouth win their game in hand) so I'm totally baffled why they didn't go for it

Agree with this. Was only Bolasie and dare I say it Akpom who actually looked like they wanted to win the game once we got level. Spence was extremely lethargic but then again when isn’t he.

Barnsley, Reading and Bournemouth are all winning as it stands, we'd still have been 7 points off the play-offs even if we'd went gung-ho for the win against the best defence in the league, a defence we never tested from open play in over 100 minutes of football, even when we were losing.

The more likely outcome would have been that we were done on the break, as we have been so often this season, and lost a third game a row, with people then demanding to know why we were so open at the back after deservedly equalising and the pressure and negativity would mount further on the squad.

You lake a good point, but I think NW is manager enough to say ‘look lads I know we threw a point away, but we had to go for it’ and still pick them up for the next game.

To be honest I'm absolutely furious with the attitude after getting the equaliser. You can't blame the players as that is clearly what they were instructed to do. Wasting time at every opportunity. Even when the ball went near the coaches, Jepson was in no hurry to get it back in play. At this stage of season and with the position we're in we had absolutely nothing to lose. Frustrating to say the least.
