Who does Wilder throw under the bus tonight ??

I think he’s going to be seriously hacking a few players off now - another performance like this against Rotherham and the writing will be on the wall

Just watched the interview, interesting comment by Wilder on not understanding the expectations when we’ve been out of the Premier League for so long.

I don't really know what to make of that. What a weird thing to come out with. 3 nil down at half time, no shots on target until the last 15 mins of the game, and he comes out and says the problem is our expectations are too high?

I'm starting to think maybe he does want out. It's a bit like the press interviews Karanka was giving towards the end.

We're going nowhere this season. It's a design not a bug. The manager can't see why we wouldn't expect to be 3 down at home at half time. I don't see how that mindset can coexist with him expecting/tagetting promotion.

It's the players that aren't performing. They need hacking off.
It's not just the players. He's blaming individual mistakes but the system at play means a mistake anywhere results in a goal conceded. We are far too cavalier. The RCB and LCB seem to forget they are CBs and not fullbacks. McNair for the first goal didn't track his man but we were up near the half way line with plenty of bodies back and wet didn't even come close to preventing the shot. Howson took too long on the ball but there was no option on for him. The 3rd nobody closed down, nobody tracked runners because nobody knows what their role is.

So yes, individual mistakes cost us but you aren't going to finish any game with no individual mistakes and you can't afford for every mistake to result in a goal conceded.

If Wilder’s response to this dire start to the season is to question expectation he can leave as far as I’m concerned.

I’m not reactionary and have the opinion that he’s shown he’s a good manager in the past. I’ve had the opinion so far that the idea of sacking him was ludicrous.

However that sort of response/reaction from him is indicative of something rotten about his outlook and enough for me to make the judgement that this isn’t the man to take us forward.

Anything less than the playoffs is a failure this season, there’s no way around that. He would have been aware of this going into the job in the first place and at the start of this season.

He may point at recruitment. I’d argue the side is underperforming. And that kind of attitude will not get the best out of the team.

Wilder is speaking about expectations because he knows deep down we are badly under-performing. If he can convince the fans that it's a long-term plan then it buys him more time.

Reality is though, that first-half performance was as bad a half of football I've ever seen from a Boro team. We can't keep playing that badly, because the fans will turn.

I have been blowing the Chris Wilder trumpet since before Warnock was appointed. Last night was unforgiveable by any yardstick. His comments about expectation was bizarre given he was banging on about change, recruitment, marquee signings etc, he himself added to it. I do think conversations were had with Gibson b.p. (before preston) he naively bought the rhetoric that ultimately our money men did not deliver on (not for the 1st time either).

The recruitment team and the C.E.O. & Chairman himself have not delivered anything like what was needed. Muniz is the only decent striker brought in for starters. We are weaker in midfield, Mowatt is a woeful replacement for Tav, we might as well play with 10 men. We are slow of thought in the squad, slow of action and aside from Jones and Giles, lack pace and creativity in key areas in the squad. The recruitment, once again has proven to be poorer than we’d hoped for. As for ’attitude over ability‘, bo****ks. The team were all over the shop, gung ho at the back with no pace to recover. We are easy pickings to a good, pacy counter attacking team. We actually got ‘numbers over quality’ instead.

Wilder has to take his share of the responsibility too. Howson has done that before for their second goal, he did have an option, the stands, far safer than what he did. McNair should never be ahead of Dijksteel ever again. Jones has to learn how to cross, sliding the ball across the ground every time is a worry. Giles, as good as he is going forward is poor out of possession. Crooks plods around and lacks the quality this season, whether that is due to the midfield being weakened is open to debate, Mowatt is a league 1 level average midfielder, he brings nothing at all. Muniz needs support, Mcgree is frustrating, he is not the answer up front. Roberts tried but was left cast adrift by shoddy defending.

Wilders comments about ”giving it a good go” 2nd half is utter nonsense. We got 2 goals in quick succession with 13 mins to go and reverted to negative passing for a while. The 2 goals allowed for an attempt for the cracks to be papered over by Wilder, but he didn’t fool me and nor should he fool anyone else. The players were to blame, but Wilder picked the team he himself said put in arguably the worst performance of the season against Sunderland. Remind me, what is the height of insanity again!!

I thought it odd we had the same ref 2 games running too, not that that had a lot to do with the outcome.

If we don’t win Saturday, I can see Gibson having an itchy trigger finger, but he has to accept some of the blame regarding recruitment and the stupidity of selling Tav without having a replacement.

We have won 4 of our last 17 league games across seasons. 17 points out of a possible 51, that is real relegation form after a huge transfer window. It really can not be allowed to go on. The players can not play the system Wilder wants, to good effect, they do not have the level of quality, pace and nous to carry it off. Whether that is Wilders fault, recruitments fault, or a mix of both (likely) is a moot point, change is needed and Wilderball is approaching a crossroads. We look like a team cursed in a groundhog day far too often at the moment.

I’m the opposite of an entitled deluded fan but my expectations for this club is that we push hard for promotion, playoffs minimum at this level, every season.

That’s the job. That’s the level of the club, the money we spend, the ambition and fits the status of the club. The wage bill. We’ve been a top end 2nd division / lower half 1st division team for our entire history. Every season below 25th in the pyramid is underachievement.

I don’t think that’s entitled. I think any outside observer would put us as one of the biggest, most ambitious clubs in the Championship, which is why we’re in and around the favourites to go up every season regardless of squad and manager. And this season has a poor Championship on paper and we’ve committed to a top manager to get us up. It’s not a holding season, if anything expectations should be higher than usual - top 2.

We’re not Sunderland or Derby, who think they’re a big club because they’ve got loads of seats and won an FA Cup in 1899. The expectations are reasonable. And we’re falling way below expectations at the minute.

Excellent summary I would add how can you play high intensity high pressing football ie wilderball with low intensity slow players it's not going to work it's like coaching a Sunday league team to play like Liverpool
