Who do you think is going to be our number 9?

Crooks ?
Really ? He’s never been a 90 minute footballer for 3 years.. should never be in a squad outside of league 1. Can’t defend, can’t tackle without giving away foul, can’t play midfield no legs, can’t play up front no speed or close control, can’t be 10 too slow to pass .. shouldn’t be impact sub because he’s blowing out of his asss after 5 mins and I jogs about kicking people.. end of rant

This.

That said, we've got a few players now in that attacking four who can play multiple positions, although I'm not sure that has been the recruitment strategy, and we generally haven't seen players shunted around positions under Carrick.

At present it would appear to be...

Left side - the two Aussies
Central - Rogers or Crooks
Right side - forss or Jones
Up top - lath or coburn.

If coburn does go, we could probably get by with what we have but I think we'll want another CF option.

I also think crooks is filling a gap in the squad currently and we'll look to recruit an actual no 10 as competition for Rogers.

Or someone who can play 9 or 10 but that's a difficult combo to find.
Isn't Gilbert a back up for Rogers?

Think Archer will be back, if we can get him. We tried to buy him in January even before we had the Chuba transfer money. He will be our number one target. (y)

Can see it being another Premier League loanee but no Cameron Archer.

A few names:

Dane Scarlett - Spurs
John Duran - Villa
Fofana - Chelsea

Bonus name:
Danny Namaso - Porto

If we're just talking about the squad number 9, then I'm not sure why so many people believe it will be filled. There's plenty of squad numbers that will remain unfilled, and just because we dont have a number 9 and the moment it doesn't mean the club are out there looking for a player just to fill that shirt.

Fofana went to Union Berlin on loan.

Just saw Alfie Devine, Dane Scarlett, Harvey White are all leaving Spurs, some permanent, some loans.
I'd take Harvey White if he was available for cheap, can play left back and midfield I believe. He was rated for a bit when Conte was there, included in a few PL squads.

Looks like we wont be signing another main striker then.

I really do feel concerned about this season...

I think he probably is first choice but we still look light for backup in that position.

Not convinced that Crooks was/is anything but a stopgap in that backup striker role.

Could be Coburn I guess but potentially going on loan?

If we do see Forss as an option (and I've seen nothing to suggest that is the case) we'd need another option on the right anyway.

We do need loan players in without doubt. I can understand why Lath has the 9 shirt as he is here for 4, possibly 5 years (unless we sell). I was hoping the 9 shirt was being held back for a top striker incoming, but not to be. My concern is that the club appear much weaker than we finished last season, we need to see a few more games to be sure one way or the other and how Lath and Engel settle in and perform. It is early days but the games have come with warning signs and alarm bells.

I think the squad as it stands needs time to gel and grow, I think it will, but not soon enough, we may even need to write this season off unless a miracle happens in loan signings (as top 6 challengers anyway) before we see the best from our squad, maybe next year 🤷‍ It is awfully inexperienced for this league at present.

I only hope Carrick is allowed time by Gibson and I hope Carrick is prepared to be patient with the club and willing to see the project through to the end himself, or we’ll likely end up with Woodgate again. It is clear we can’t compete financially any longer and need sales like Akpom to eventually progress over time. Last season was indeed the year we’ll look back on with mixed feelings, for me a case of the 96/97 feeling of ‘what ifs’ and ’if only’ and ‘what could have been’ I just can’t envisage this coming season as a 97/98 one sadly 🙁

That was almost certain to be the case though, any team would find it impossible to replace 5 PL standard players.

But maybe the more realistic measure is comparing the team that finishes this season, rather than the team that starts it, given that our team now is arguably stronger than the one that kicked off the previous season?
