I think Archer is now a distant dream and Latte Lath is his replacement, I think we are going to sign Ross Stewart.
Who do you think is going to be our number 9?

I think Archer was always a distant dream really (we basically put all of our loans in the shop window last season then got ourselves barred from the shop once we didn't go up).
Despite the rumours I don't see Ross Stewart as a goer, I could be completely wrong, but I just don't see him as a Carrick player, nor Sunderland selling directly to us. I think the 9 shirt is being reserved for a loan punt (potentially something exotic from Europe/Rest of the World, but could equally be a Premier League youngster. Assuming we can get another striker over the line).

I only see that happening if no Premier League clubs come in for him or him/Villa can't agree terms on a deal. If he is going to drop to the Championship we have as good a shout as any, but I just think he'll end up at a higher level.

If its true Villa are insisting on a buy back clause, many PL teams if not all will be put off by that imho, maybe not Sheff Utd or Luton, but I can’t see him going there. I could see Burnley being interested, maybe Everton. but yep its the hope that kills you. If Latte Lath isn’t the number 9 then it is clearly being saved for someone potentially special.

I can't see Archer coming back, Lath is his replacement not Chuba's. The question should be who's playing #10?

That said, we've got a few players now in that attacking four who can play multiple positions, although I'm not sure that has been the recruitment strategy, and we generally haven't seen players shunted around positions under Carrick.
At present it would appear to be...
Left side - the two Aussies
Central - Rogers or Crooks
Right side - forss or Jones
Up top - lath or coburn.
If coburn does go, we could probably get by with what we have but I think we'll want another CF option.
I also think crooks is filling a gap in the squad currently and we'll look to recruit an actual no 10 as competition for Rogers.
Or someone who can play 9 or 10 but that's a difficult combo to find.

I’m certain we’ll sign another striker and send Coburn out on loan. There’s a lot of talk about Archer having interest from loads of clubs, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we somehow end up getting him again.

I think Archer was very much part of a package working with Giles and Akpom last season (and Ramsey when available). I wouldn’t be so sure he would have the same impact with our new set up and for the money being asked I think I would be looking elsewhere. Carrick will know what and who he wants and we just have to trust Carrick and the recruitment team to get them in.
