Where would you live around Darlington?

This is 2 minutes from the A66 East of Darlington - can be at the Riverside in 25 minutes - It used to be an easy drive into Darlington Centre too. Good access to A1 too.

This area is fairly respectable and relatively cheap.

I live close to Stanhope Park and just take the train to Middlesbrough, but we downsized when we retired and came home, so we bought a 3 bed apartment rather than a house.

There's plenty of houses with character South and West of the town centre. Think I'd rather be in walking distance of the centre rather than being out in Hurworth, Neasham or Croft, etc. It's nice to be able to walk to a pub, restaurant, shops or even the rail station where you're 20 odd mins away from Durham/York/Newcastle.

Richmond is a lovely place as well. The only problem is you're going to be adding an hour plus onto the working day with a commute. Same goes for Barnard Castle as well. I guess it depends what people like. Some of the villages around Darlington are pretty decent if you're not bothered about being close to the centre.

That house linked isn't too bad. Although the energy rating is a low one so it needs some updating. The problem is it looks fairly modern, so if a property needs insulating and new boiler, etc, it's probably better to buy something more dated.

I can highly recommend Topcliffe which has the wonderful River Swale and some great fishing.

Not sure if it’s close to Darlington though.

If you are commuting into central Darlo for work the easiest road is Conniscliffe Road (basically the road towards Barnard Castle) The other roads into the town centre can be very busy in rush hour. There are some lovely houses on Coniscliffe Road and the villages out that way are all pretty good. Have a look at somewhere like Winston (about halfway between Barny and Darlo) Winston bridge is the one that they flew a Spitife under for a TV series. The main advantage of that road is that it does not have a junction with the A1 so there is no traffic coming off the motorway.

I lived in Middleton St George for 15years before moving to Richmondshire, loved it there but as other have mentioned there’s loads of nice villages surrounding it and a fair few areas within Darlington itself that are all nice to live in.

Winston's a bit dead these days. My parents used to live there, but the village shop has gone and the pub's closed. Certainly quiet unless the RAF are practising low-level flying up the Tees.
