When you look back at the Boro from a number of years ago

We had ambition, pride, confidence in a club that had rarely been bettered. Professional in approach, attitude, ability and with a playing staff comparable to some of the best boasting outstanding individual playing ability. A chairman rightly cited as one of the best - and one of us. The pride of the fans was palpable- a feeling our club was capable of reaching heights some of us had never seen.

Did we live beyond our means? Probably. But the value of our assets - the players was considerable.

And now and for a few years? Pretty damn miserable. Players quality reducing, team tactics wrongly employed, a chairman who has long lost the tag of the best chairman through adopting a revolving door policy, a weak and staid upper management, a vow of silence from the owner who tends to treat the “customers “ with a degree of contempt, no conceivable policy to attract new fans - frankly you could go on.

The magic of Gibbo is tarnished to a degree I never thought I would witness. He is reliant on fans having long memories to recall a slither of success to avoid universal criticism. I doubt any other owner/ chairman would be afforded such luxury and slack he has.

I wish we could see the old Gibbo back - sadly I think those days have long passed.

The decline of the club - and the allowance of this- is not only a shame but a disgrace.

And the sad reality is little will change.

From 94-06 the club was cash rich. Since then it has not been. There is no “old Gibson”, he’s always been the same person, he was just richer than other owners for a while.

Disagree. Bad decision making, financial mismanagement have both been large contributors to part of the mess we’re in - coupled with the man being completely fireproof

When we were in the premier league with Valdes, De Roon, Ramirez and Negredo? That ambition? or when we were in the Championship with Traore, Downing, Braithwaite & Bamford? Was it that ambition?

or was it last season taking Spurs and Man Utd to task ambition with us on the way to the play offs. was it that ambition, pride and confidence we had all of those years ago?

Was it start of the season confidence when we brought in Steffen, Lenihan, Giles & Muniz.. when we were amongst the favourites for promotion?

The decline of the club, the end of the road for Gibson, the shame, the disgrace.. all seems to line up with Wilders wondering eye, hunting for a job elsewhere and slagging off our players, staff, our club and fans..

Still good old solid gold accomplished Chris Wilder eh who had us at 1 point per game the end of last season and missing out on the playoff.. our record worst ever start to a season this season (because we soldTavernier?’ It’s so bad it has put our championship position at risk and hindered our chances of funding a replacement manager!!

The decline was in operation before Wilder. The season in the Prem we were still woefully undercooked - and that was the last time we made a profit. Bottom line there is one person who has presided and being the main part culpable - Gibbo

Couldn’t really care. I know he has increased the indebtedness of the club to one of the highest of all clubs. Meaning we couldn’t be sold - that is the tragedy.
Ok. Well I’m not defending him, he’s made mistakes, but what I’m saying is that he wasn’t some kind of genius in 94-06, he was just rich.

And there lies the damning factor- we can’t operate successfully without throwing a shedload of money at playing squad signings - something we are no longer capable of operating

He is probably well aware of this himself. But as you say, he can’t get out.

Trust you to be Negative Nosmo 👍

From my understanding and I could be wrong something I remember being told at the time, the campaigns in Europe after winning the cup and trying to build a squad good enough to compete had a heavy toll on us financially and Gibson was looking at selling the club when he appointed Southgate but for whatever reason it didn’t materialise. Maybe file this with a Chinese businessman wanting to buy us in 2017.

The new badge thing I believe was to do with his concern about the club’s global branding, which you’d assume may have been to do with his own thoughts about selling.

I laugh about people talking about selling the club.
To who? And why? Maybe these people forget what we had before Gibson or werent alive to appreciate it.

We are lucky enough in this threadbare town of ours to have a wealthy fan as an owner. He has kept us afloat for years, at a loss to himself. Of course, mistakes have been made but for the right reasons.

Those who negate his loss as a tax write-off don't know a fuc.king thing about business.
Some big clubs have been relegated from the champo and we aren't too big to follow them. Be very careful what you wish for.

Ah be careful what you wish for…. The stock statement trotted out time and time again. New owners in recent times - Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford, Leicester, Villa, Wolves to name a few - not been a disaster for them.

The fear factor is overplayed. Yes some new ownership hasn’t worked out admittedly.

We are currently witnessing a shambolic, error strewn senior management operating in a very hamstrung way. We are stagnant at best, in decline at worst- all self inflicted.

This is the tragedy we are seeing unveil before our eyes. And, sadly, there remains unconditional support for the owner.

Relegation is a distinct reality. That’s what should be the primary concern of every Boro fan.

Exactly this. Gibson hasn’t really changed the football environment has. Between 94 and 06 he was a relatively big player and could throw money at solving problems and achieving our goals. We’ve never been a particularly professional outfit.

frankly you could go on.
and you will...again and again and again and again, pushing your agenda against Middlesbrough Football Club & targeting with hate the constant achievements of Steve Gibson - a man who provides a football club for the town.

could you provide us with a synopsis of your own life success tales since 1986? - it must be a glorious tale, a mix of dashing soldiering a la Flashman, a little Gold and Diamond mining success in South Africa, Oil rich discoveries across the South Atlantic sea's, the courting of numerous 'Miss Worlds' all covered by a thick portfolio of stocks, shares and bitcoins, enough to keep a coque hungry prince in tweeds - you've been threatening to 'retire' from 'work' for the past 4 years.

must be lonely on that 13th floor of the council tower block down in that there south london.
just wait till the catalogue bride returns home to warmer climes, because you can't keep the room warm cos you can't pay the gas bill.

stop being so bitter, it'll ruin yer.

see its easy to snipe - a little distasteful, but easy.

Your stupidity knows no bounds. All I say is absolutely correct. I guess you close your eyes when looking at the league table? I guess you adopt a nodding dog syndrome at all issues around Middlesbrough FC?

The club is bigger than any one person. Despite that person showing and continue to show a pretty poor effort at running a football club.

If you think I am alone in criticising the way we are being run you are very much mistaken. Opinion on this board is altering with more questioning the methods decisions and stumbling error by error through a high level of mismanagement.

That’s the reality

Error strewn? I don't recall anyone suggesting Chris Wilder's appointment was anything other than a triumph.

Not many thought his sacking was the wrong move.

And unconditional support for the owner? He is the OWNER. He doesn't owe the fans anything. It's his club. The fans can support the club, or not support the club, it's their choice. The choice they have is to pay for a ticket, or not.

Steve Gibson doesn't have that choice, and his ticket costs millions of £.

As for all this stuff about debt or equity support, it doesn't matter one iota. The club is not viable, when he comes to sell it Steve Gibson won't have any alternative but to write off the inter company loans. There's no reason to convert any more debt into equity for as long as the club is a basket case, and even in the Prem League it barely made any money.

Why should Steve Gibson divulge names or details of ongoing negotiations to find a new manager? I didn't tell everyone about people I was recruiting before they'd signed on the dotted line. The negotiations are confidential and sensitive.

If you, or someone you know wants to take over at MFC then get your act together and do it.
