Whats the worst job in this heat

My eldest son is a cladder / sheeter. As others have said, going out side to do any kind of labour intensive work with PPE, gloves and a hat on defies all logic on a day like today.
We have to don all the required PPE, including yellow hi viz, which attracts the heat 10 fold & at times a chemical suit to be worn

I run a small bakery - you can’t have air con for obvious reasons.
It been 46 degrees for most of the afternoon

Doing lots of things to help them and they are doing a frickin great job
Must be tough that

Some guys were doing some road works on acklam road when I drove past at lunchtime time ish.

All wearing hi-vis jackets… which i assume is not something they chose to do. Surely some common sense in a heatwave from management above saying ok you don’t need the high vis today lads

My mate has just been telling me of his day. He is a gardener working in a green house. Said it was 40 at 9 this morning. Couldn’t touch any piece of metal, having to ring out his shirt after 15 minutes. Said it was like putting your whole body in an oven

Binman deffo, and no one has mentioned the maggots

Oh, wait, firefighter must be up there too!
Beating out fires up the Hills in weather like this, was never much fun. Once had to spend 20ish minutes in breathing apparatus and a full chemical suit at a spill near the Riverside Stadium. Had to turn my face mask upside down to pour the sweat out. I was absolutely shattered for a while after that.

Did a week as an Agency Binman for a week in London, in the middle of Summer. F@#%@ng awful. Emptied one bin and the bag split and it was full of sh@#y nappies covered in maggots. I actually threw up and jacked it there and then. Those lads do some fast pace walking and are pretty fit…and smelly

Restaurant Kitchens have to be up there - after 5 minutes you're just wet everywhere and stay like that for the next 12 hours.

Yet people will still kick and moan when normal service isn't adhered despite all members of staff melting in the heat.
Had it all weekend mate. Started in new place today which is so much more relaxed but still hot as ****.

It's right up there with glass makers, steel production and chemical tanker drivers.

Absolutely brutal mate.
My boy said he is starting work at 6am till 2pm tomorrow as an aid to avoid the hottest part of the day. Seems like a sensible option based on the fact that you HAVE to wear the PPE. Safety doesn't take a day off 😉

Great stuff Finny. They'll appreciate the praise too. Management have checked on us all day.

Working outside wise, a roofer, bricky labourer, or something like a HV Cable digging gang, digging around cables with two layers on, and all PPE.

Being in the forces isn’t good either, ie being in a war zone where you can be in 2-3 layers, lugging loads of kit, gas mask on sometimes, helmet and getting shot at/ mortared/ bombed etc. Usually with crap supplies and no means of escape from the heat either, it’s ridiculous.

Loads of jobs inside like chefs/ welders/ steelworkers etc, but how these places don’t already have something to lower the heat is a joke.

You only get decent working conditions if you fight for them and then they are set in law
