Whats the worst job in this heat

Working outside wise, a roofer, bricky labourer, or something like a HV Cable digging gang, digging around cables with two layers on, and all PPE.

Being in the forces isn’t good either, ie being in a war zone where you can be in 2-3 layers, lugging loads of kit, gas mask on sometimes, helmet and getting shot at/ mortared/ bombed etc. Usually with crap supplies and no means of escape from the heat either, it’s ridiculous.

Loads of jobs inside like chefs/ welders/ steelworkers etc, but how these places don’t already have something to lower the heat is a joke.

Tyre manufactering - tyre press operator. The temperature of the environment cant be lowered as it effects the curing of rubber. The operative is head to toe in thick PPE due to the heat of the press that will strip skin off on open contact, protection v burns from melting and molten rubber, a facemask is worn, ear muffs worn due to the presses sounding like doors slamming in the depths of hell, and a half mask respirator worn due to hazardous fumes.

One Archie Stephens did this job for years which might explain why he was such a hard b****d. Football was easy.

Guy on 5 live earlier saying he’d been fitting electrics in a loft all day. 50+ degrees up there and he had to wear PPE to protect from the insulation. Could only work 10mins at a time before needing a break. Had to pour the sweat out of his gloves.

No thanks 🤮

Absolutely brutal mate.
My boy said he is starting work at 6am till 2pm tomorrow as an aid to avoid the hottest part of the day. Seems like a sensible option based on the fact that you HAVE to wear the PPE. Safety doesn't take a day off 😉
I dont mind, its the total opposite in the winter, baltic at times on the river connecting shios at 3 in the morning freezing cold

Absolutely love my job & feel so lucky to have worked here for over 3 decades, not bad for a numpty 👍😉

And confide space too, now that is brutal, does it get any worse than that job

Not as bad as some. But I don’t envy uniform police officers at the moment, wearing stab vests and being extra busy having to deal with the numpties of the world who are even more p1ssed than usual whilst also suffering sun stroke.

Had it all weekend mate. Started in new place today which is so much more relaxed but still hot as ****.

It's right up there with glass makers, steel production and chemical tanker drivers.
Where are you now fella?

Any job that involves not only being blasted by air temperature and low air velocity (wind), but one that means you're next to equipment whacking out radiant heat too.

A marine engineer working in a ship’s boiler room or engine room would be horrific today, especially on an older ship.

You only get decent working conditions if you fight for them and then they are set in law
Yup, a lot of other countries have an internal heat limit for a working environment, but here doesn't. I expect this will be "hot" on the agenda soon mind.

We do have a cold limit though, but you can put extra layers on to get warm in a lot of jobs, not like they're going to let people work in the nude or their pants, and most places won't even let people wear shorts, bonkers.

When I was in Kuwait there was a law (I think) that if the temperature hit 50 degrees outside all businesses had to close.
Anyone working outside had to crack on until that temperature too.
As far as I'm aware they have never publicly reached the 50 degrees..

I did photograph my car temperature gauge at 55 degrees once but the official temperature was 49.5

Yup, been there (Ali Al Salem) and heard the same, we used to make a joke of it and every time they rang up the desk it was 49.9.

In our little shelter/ shade bit it got over 50, think it was up to 55, but when we were on days we were out in the sun, impossible to avoid, would be surprised if that was under 65 degrees.

We were in tents for the first month as well, and the air con only ran for an hour or two once the sun hit the air con unit, before shutting itself down. Coming back off nights and into the cool tent was ace, until we all woke up in pools of sweat three hours later (it was like a sunny day in a glasto tent x10), and repeated that for about a month. It's funny looking back
