What's the maximum you'd want to see us pay for Cameron Archer?

Well we disagree there’s nothing wrong with that, he’s nowhere near a £30m player yet IMO. That would make Gyokeres a £50-60m player by that logic.
Archer is 3 years younger and more potential for improvement.

From what I've seen so far, Archer is already at least as good as Gyrokes if not better. He may not be as prolific (although his 6 goals in 12 games for us, is similar to Gyrokes goal rate this season), but there is more to his all round game.

Archer's hold up play is excellent. His pace is frightening for defenders. He has transformed the way we play since he has came in and created space for Mcgree, Akpom, Ramsey and Forss to play in. We were doing well with Forss/Crooks up front, but we are another level with Archer in the team

Archer is the real deal, strong, pacy, carries the ball well, good finisher. His link up play with the team is as good as we have had from a striker in many a year.

The only way we see him next season is with promotion, otherwise he goes to another prem team, possibly on loan, or for a sizeable sale. Value at present is around the £25M-£30M mark. His potential is huge, a successful season in the PL and his value at least doubles. He will play for England soon enough too, I could see a few of the top 7 sniffing around tbh, that price could see him having several suitors better placed than us. My advice is enjoy what we currently have and be grateful for it however long as it lasts.

Personally, I think we would try for a loan at that price were we to go up, I am not convinced Gibson will sanction that sort of spend on a single player in our first season back there (should it happen), It might suit Villa more to see how he copes and to potentially watch his value double. We would need to strengthen with far better quality than in 2016, we have a good number of loans that require potentially replacing too, so as much as I would love to sign young Cameron on a permanent deal, I can’t see it happening, but I hope I am wrong, but whatever money is available will be spent wisely by Scott & Co.

My only "concern" would be he is a Championship level forward who is unproven in the PL. It's a big jump, and better - or as good - strikers haven't made the step up.

We can only guess, but cannot see Villa wanting to sell at anything less than £25m......with the package being in the £35-40m region. Awful lot of dosh.

Just looking at Brewster at Sheff Utd as a player who rattled them in for fun in the Championship, big money move, hasn't lived up to it. 😬😬

There is a certain level where we must be cautious and not over commit......but love to see him here permanently 👍

I’d be disappointed to spend 25 on either to be fair. Both have done well in the championship but the premier league is worlds apart.

Where is he in the pecking order at Villa, clearly behind Watkins but looking at their squad they seem a little thin on the ground for strikers?

Put it this way.

If you offered me only one and either sign Archer for £25m. Or Gyokeres for £25m.

I know which one I'd be signing. And it ain't the swede.
At those prices, yes. However, i would pay up to £18M for Gyokeres if the money was there to do so along with £25M on Archer. It wont be though, even on promotion despite £43M being reasonable to me, Gibson would not sanction it on 2 players imho. I think we will try to do it on the cheap again. Hope i am wrong though.

Rhian Brewster to Sheff United is a good indication of the cost of a highly rated England U21 striker. He went for 23.5m, didn't work out very well though

The most we could sustainably afford, whilst not neglecting other areas of the pitch.

IF we go up I really hope our recruitment focuses on investing in 3 or 4 long term players such as archer/ramsey/giles, who will be assets not liabilities, regardless of which division we find ourselves in in the coming seasons.
Hugely complex calculation. Lets say we sign all our players on 4 year deals, We get 120m first season income in the prem. But years n+1, n+2 and n+3 could range from 120m to 30m.

So when we sign players we need to 'gamble' on being in the prem some of those additional years.

A 28m striker would be FFP across 4 seasons, so 7m/year. Payment will also be spread to some degree. So there is a FFP and funding question. We 'could' sign 10 players for 20-30m and likely be fine financially. It all depends if Gibson wants to have a real go or play it safe

I am certain that Gyokeres is the better player just now, but the selling club status and financial position is very important. I believe we could get Gyokeres cheaper than Archer.
Archer may well become the outstanding player.

I think both is the type of thinking we need.
If we got both for £45m that would be just £9m per season on 5 year deals (plus wages).
Both these lads will get better and be huge assets whichever league we end up in.
It would also be what MGW cost alone.

Quality not quantity, but the club will have to spend big to stay up especially with our core being full of loans just now.
Surely Gibson won't get it as badly wrong as 2016-17. Too little, on too little, too late.

Up Akpom`s wages.
Buy: Archer / Giles /
Eject: Lumley / Hall / Payero / Mowatt / Muniz / Djksteel / Clarke / Steffen
Keep: Danks, Leadbitter, Carrick, Fettis an Woody. (y)

I get the impression he's not well thought of by Emery. And Emery likes playing with 1 striker - so Archer will find it hard to displace Watkins.

However, I think Villa's fans, backroom staff etc all like what they see in Archer.

Hopefully Emery gets his own way, which helps our case.

I do think we need to be promoted this season to stand any sort of chance of getting him back here for next season - whether that's on loan or as a permanent signing.
It was reported when we secured the loan that we'd actually tried to get him on a permanent. That would suggest we believed it was a decent possibility. If Emery doesn't have him in his plans then i think we'd be able to get him

He isn’t worth anywhere near £25m, 10-12 maybe.
That's not the going rate though is it for a striker of promise?
In sensible terms he's not worth £25m, but premier league transfer fees aren't sensible. We wouldn't be getting him for £10-12m

We aren’t going to spend £25m on him even with promotion IMO.
