What would be your lockdown (tier system) breaking point?

Yep, I don’t believe in any conspiracies or that this is all planned by the government (other than them wanting it to go beyond Brexit).

It’s just that, unsurprisingly, a group of bumbling university pals who’ve found themselves in charge of the country are currently making a massive hash of things because it doesn’t really affect them that much and they don’t really understand what they’re doing.
You're not wrong Atypical.

Societal change will be more to do with the prevalence of broadband and sky high rents leading to people lacking the desire and reason to leave their homes rather than anything any government might put in place. They're just here to try and match the prevailing wind. Hopefully people will emerge in 2021 wanting to reclaim their lives and will have had enough of box sets.

Good point.

I feel sorry for all of you who are in a tier 3 area, life must be extremely hard.
I am tier 2, but find it really difficult to abide by all of the rules. I try to act in the spirit of the rules and live in an area where infection rates are very low.
Personally I have reached burnout, I am at a vulnerable age and health conditions, I live by myself and hundreds of miles away from my grown up family. I run a business where I am expected to keep on running to provide employment to my staff, if I close down then my franchisors will fine me for non performance. I arrange visits to elderly peoples houses and arrange contractors to visit to perform pour service. However I am not allowed to see my family at a time of the year when I would love to see them.
Of course I am going to break the rules to spend a time with my daughter who also lives alone. If I don't then I will really question if I want to be part of this world anymore. That sounds extreme, and I really try to deal with my mental health but I am pushed to the point that I am not sure how to go on.
If it wasn't for Boro's good form recently, then the future would be really bleak.
Meant to say sorry to hear about your situation Smog. You won’t be alone if you decide at some point next year to just try and live life normally again. You’ll be vaccinated soon enough too. 👍

Been in highest tier in Bolton for months. Rules changing to fit the narrative doesn't help- we were put in around 200 cases per 100,000 now at 107 per 100,000 and in tier 3. It's scandalous but no surprise at the utter contempt this lot have for anyone up North. Tier 2 areas with almost 300 per 100,000 is an utter joke. Off to Mrs parents on Christmas day and my folks on Boxing day. Also received guidance today at school to have testing of all students and staff and a staggered start after Christmas; it's only end of term tomorrow- this lot are utterly clueless and have been warned for weeks to do something about it and yet again they haven't.

I must admit that I’d had enough of the whole thing yesterday and was feeling very grumpy about it all but then we got some news today about a work colleague wrt Covid which made me re-evaluate things.

I've just about had enough of it also. Sometimes I feel a little guilty about that as I've still got a job and I haven't lost anyone close to me. I am living on my own though, and this amount of solitude is just ridiculous. I think spending nigh on a year entirely alone I'm entitled to a little wobble every now and then, and to snap at one or two of the curtain twitchers continually tut tutting at other people's behaviour.

I did get the following text a little while ago which lifted the spirits.

NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme has started in the UK. When appropriate, you will receive an invitation to book. Please do not call us to get an appointment until you are invited. Information on the vaccine is available on the NHS.UK website. For anything else, your GP surgery is open and if you need to get in touch, please ring us or visit our website. Please do not come to the surgery unless you have an appointment.

I've butted heads with people on this @Laughing amongst others will confirm.

I am actually very fortunate and aren't doing it for myself.

My views on this are well known so I won't regurgitate them just to say let's hope that I'm wrong and by April time the restrictions et al are lifted for 90% of things. To those of you alone and sick of it I hear you and I stand with you.

If we're still playing this game next August it will be blatantly clear that this is about more than a virus rather than incompetence. For what it's worth, I hope I'm just a crazy idiot.

You're right Alvez, you are a crazy idiot!😜

Exactly, been saying that since March, all these civil liberties and rights that have gone won’t be easy to get back.

And, of course, they have set a precedent.
Next time flu kicks off - they will be able to lock us all up and we will comply.

12bn on test and trace, 12bn on vaccine roll out.
That’s 3 years of NHS spending.

In fairness they are building 40 new hospitals and recruiting 50000 nurses

If we think this is bad imagine how grim it’s going to be when we get the final bill when it’s ( kindish ) over . Thats when we’ll see how really inept they are at management.
the fact we’ve been juggling the momentous responsibility of brexit with this colossal burden reminds me of spinning the plates

I hope things improve for you Smog and you have an enjoyable Christmas with your loved ones. As a fellow 'living by myself' fella it can be tough with all this going on. Take care everyone and here's to Boro's good form continuing 👍

The extension of the furlough scheme that was announced yesterday and the Welsh & NI governments saying they're going into a harsher lockdown the other side of Xmas indicates to me that our lot will follow suit.

Bear in mind the NI one is a lockdown back to the March/April levels, only supermarkets open, no sport.

What has happened this week with the Tier system has given you all the indications you need to know. Cases mainly falling or levelling off in the North but rising in the South ...............then the real panic has started.

If this government go for a NI type lockdown after Xmas I think their will actually be civil unrest.

There has to be a balance between Covid and the mental health of the nation alongside the economical impact.

All it is at the moment is reactionary politics to Covid with the tag line of 'Do you want to murder your Granny'

You can murder your granny over Xmas but outside of that you are a chunt if u do

What wont we get back? Absolutely no way that restrictions continue any longer than what they have to, even if this government wanted to they will know full well its political suicide, but what do they even have to gain from it?

and another national lockdown (in England) is not being ruled out either, according to Nick Gibb today :(

We will almost certainly go into another lockdown in January. If tier 3 works in reducing infections would that not be a slightly more palatable option I wonder.

I think generally lockdowns do work but there is an economical and health bill at the end of it all and the issue with those accounts is they don't hit everyone equally. If you live alone the isolation can kill you. If you are one of the poorly paid after Christmas and brexit kicks in you are more likely to live in food poverty.

It's been handled very poorly with little regard to the people who died, will die and those suffering and those who will suffer.

The government's messaging has split the nation apart at a time when we would cope better by helping and supporting one another.

Look at the amount of sniping on here around families wanting to see each other over Christmas, the amount of name calling over those reluctant to take the vaccine.

We are a nation divided when we can least afford it and that my friends rests wholly and solely on our pm's shoulders. He was making jokes in pmq on Wednesday whilst people are dying, and lonely.
