What Would a Decent Playoff Run Look Like?

We are definitely in with a shout with this starting 11 and maybe 2-3 others.

We are clearly very light up front and at CB. We are really relying on no injuries and also players will get tired.

We massively need to get one of these frees over the line. Akpom is not a loan No9. That's not a pop and its hard to criticise as its a foreign role to him.

I'm sticking with my original prediction of a 74 point finish (6th place) January is going to be mega important as we need firepower to take us over the line. Warnock has done an amazing job of Pokemon Master of evolving VanDijksteel, McNairenbauer & Bolando.. maybe Watmore is the next one in line for the transmogrification 'Whathef**kmore??' converted Sunderland scrap heap winger converted into and all singing all dancing chat shyt get banged goal machine..

The illusive ghosts of transfer window past will no doubt return for the next window, Sam Cosgrove, Connor Chaplin, ANNNND OONE OTHEEERROOOOOHHHHAAAAAAHHHHHHHGGGG

We're on course for 75, but obviously there will be ups and downs in form between now and the end.

75 is normally enough. I know there are 8 clubs on course for 75+ points just now, but they won't all prove consistent enough.

Halfway Point after 23 games Maximum of 5 defeats, 9/10 wins, 8/9 draws.
Our season will be decided in December and we'll need one hell of a strong finish.

Hopefully we can get our head screwed on as far as having a balanced squad and managing the season. Soak up the pressure, move forward with every opportunity, give the cup ties to the 2nd string and stop giving up the pitch from throw ins and free kicks.
I think our season could be based on NW getting the players who he wants to push us on, whatever, we've improved so much that we're sitting in 10th & dispointed at losing to Stoke, still a couple of wins & back in the mix

Plenty of games & points before we become concerned

Why are you talking about playoffs so early? Hope that you learnt your lesson from January this year where you guys thought you were going to make it to top 6 and you ended up almost relegated. Be careful with that kind of thinking. Good luck.

Fans of all clubs look forward, try to find a glimmer of light when things are not so good

My OP was before the season started, I know how jumpy these guys get. It was a fag packet calculation and I didn't think we would have been so light upfront. We've got a massive task from now until the beginning of January (as predicted) and we then need some genuine investment if we want to stand any chance of promotion. In my armchair managers view I would be going five at the back and trying to get something different out of Watmore, Johnson & Browne. It looks from the outside looking in that Britt want's away and that Roberts is not suited either. On the bright side of things we have gone from a team headed for relegation to a solid mid table championship side. With a beautiful mind style tactical plan, an empire of the sun level of dealing in January and huge kick up the jacksie.. we do still have a chance of promotion through the playoffs.

For what it's worth Derby County are toast, their position is false and not in a good way. A major clear-out is needed in January and not only do I get the impression that it won't happen.. the way Derby have worked recently it looks like any moves will only compound the issue. Very much in Sunderland till I die mode (as we were last season until Warnock steadied the ship, fortunately Woodgate fluked his way through December and we had the pandemic to level the playing field, bring back injured players and cut out the billy big shots that were never gonna pull of trees for us. A perfect storm of Woodgate, Warnock and the Wilderness.

How many points after the Wycombe game? 36? Nice one Newy.. now time for for all the favours to be called to bring in some premier league loan players.

We're about four players away imo from smashing the playoffs. Roll out the prayer mats..

That did include the Rotherham game tho!! Haha!

To make the play off think we are going to have start beating teams above us rather than below us. We haven't achieved that so far this season by my quick reckoning.
