What was your first job?

Garden center (part time). I got quiet a bit of stick on here for sacking it off to go to the Boro 4 Newcastle 1 decider. I still think it was justified😂

2 years on Morrisons chicken counter in a full time role. I actually really enjoyed it as little outgoings and working with mates from school.

Paper rounds
Worked in the amusements - the big building in Redcar near the bowl.( not there now I was there at the weekend and I think there was a concert on)
Harvard clothes shop
The Normandy bar staff

to date the last two on my list are probably some of the funniest enjoyable jobs that I had!

Paper rounds - it was great as you got to read all the football news on the way round. Also did gardening for a mad professor my mam used to clean for. Again if was great, I got a fiver for cutting a couple of lawns and pulling a few weeds and got a free fry up from the professor.

Worked a couple of weeks before christmas in the Royal Mail sorting office, all by hand and all pigeon holes.
I had london and abroad, so the queen, presidents, tv and film stars and most importantly Santa.
Loved it seeing all these famous people or foreign places getting letters from the boro.

Whilst at school a Petrol Pump attendant at Summerfield Garage, between Whitby and Hawsker. First full time job Lab Technician at Co-op dairy in Whitby.

Did part time bar work etc when studying at Uni, but first proper job was driving a van, multi drop deliveries in and around London for an electrical firm supplying building sites with cable/conduit/sockets etc. We'd pick the orders, load the vans and then hit the road. It was actually great fun, some good lads working there and I now know London like the back of my hand, I can get to any part of London by road without looking at a map. I'd probably need one when i get there to find specific streets, but it's a good level of knowledge.

Stayed for about a year then switched jobs, relevant to my degree (Music) to the company I'm at now, have been here 21 years.

Paper round. Got 1 guinea a week for 14 rounds. Mornings Gazette 6 days Sports Sat evening Sunday morning
Moved up to milk round with a HORSE AND CART! (God I'm old) got 30 shillings for that.

Paper rounds for me. Did morning/evening Mon to Sat in Saltburn for £1.80 a week. Megabucks 😁 I gave the Sunday round which paid 50p a miss 😁

Glass collector at the Unicorn in Richmond. Hated it. Sacked it off to go and watch Simple Minds at Roundhay Park one weekend and never went back.

Apart from a few paper rounds, my 1st official job on leaving school, which my dear dad got me a week after I left school, August 1977, was as a rough painter ( now called industrial painter) at the salt plant, cassel works ICI Billingham
