What was your favourite teletext/oracle page?

Ha,not a clue on numbers but my wife and I used to play any quiz we could find. Fun times

302 was the football headlines wasn't it?

Those gossip lines with questions as hook headlines did my head in. Top International striker to sign for Boro? I bet if you phoned up it just said "no".

The Daily Mail uses the same tactic: a question to which the answer is going "no" as a headline to lure the reader in, but simply by asking the question, makes people think it is a possibility.

I wasted a lot of time scrolling through the cheap holidays and remembering the page numbers. The problem was that by the time I'd navigated back to my favourites they were gone.

302 was Ceefax headlines yeah. But news in brief was where you’d find out that a young David Beckham was going on loan to Preston or whatever.

I remember in the autumn of 1996 flicking on 302 to discover that Rav was basically touting himself to Man Utd. Sense of sheer panic for a few days until we all remembered he actually wasn’t quite good enough for them anyway.

At some point TVs were introduced that could pause the pages as they scrolled. But when you unpaused it caught up with itself, so you might have missed millions of bargain holidays while you were reading about the:
'lxry b&b sc tenrf - 7n £149 bo2ps'
Or something like that.

I did a teletext allocation on arrival holiday in marmaris and it was regularly featured on worst hotels in Europe shows 😂

Was this place

Scores update for sure. But on those days when most of the division had a game , plus there were some quite big scores (meaning more info pushed down) , this would make the number of subpages quite high. To 'dial' into the page and realise you were on the first subpage and had to wait for 4 subpage scrolls before the Boro would be shown , well that was jeopardy of the highest order !

I remember Leeds being 3-1 up against Portsmouth and by the time the pages flicked round it was 3-3 with Wittingham scoring twice in the last minute. We must have have got beat for that to stick in my mind so much🙈
