I was ever so pleased to hear mummy and daddy tell me that a horse won the Grand National and beer was on sale at the local pub, plus my original babysitter was as fit as feck despite her being 15 years older than I.
 
On my 21st Basil Boli was busy sticking the head on Stuart Pearce,can't remember too much after that to be fair
 
Chris Waddle and Stuart Pearce were missing penalties for England. Ian Baird saved the Boro from relegation and we went to Wembley for the first time.

Pretty **** year from what I remember.
 
Chris Rea - "Chris Rea" Album was released.
I lived in South Shields at the time.
The new metro build had reached "The Chi" but wasn't opened till a few years later.
Ipswich were top of the First Division.
Boro lost that match against Wolves in the FA Cup in the replay and began the long slide to 1986.
John Lennon's "Imagine" was no.1 in the music charts.
It was 50p a pint in the "NOPs" and all the lads said they wouldn't buy another if it went above 50p.
Billingham Bombers were still in the Northern Hockey League, along with Durham Wasps and Whitley Warriors.

A certain European Championship was taking place in this country, the sun shone every day and the greatest rock n roll band of a generation were doing two huge homecoming gigs before going on to conquer Hertfordshire, oh a certain Italian signed for Boro.

All in all not a bad year
 
I can't remember specific events, but the year was 1981. I celebrated my 21st with a meal in the restaurant in the Dragonora it seemed very posh at the time.

Everyone was getting very worried about the Millennium Bug (remember that?) and that planes were going to drop out of the sky on NYE. Of course nothing at all happened! Almost seemed like the IT industry dreamt it up to get people spending....
