What value would you place on DJed Spence and Coulson?

The good thing in our favour both are tied down, isn't Coulson contract less time period to Spence?

We sold Gibson for £15m after having a good season in the PL and a couple in the best defense in the championship. Coulson and Spence are barely playing in a team that has been mostly dreadful. Some of these figures are just daft. Coulson is already 22, he should be playing first team football for a team at our level by now, he's being kept out of the team by Marvin Johnson. Spence is the one with real promise and he has the athletic ability as well as the technical side of things to play higher level. Neither of them have played for England U21 so I doubt they have been setting the scouting world alight. I'd be shocked if we got more than £5m for Coulson or £10m for Spence. I'd snap their hands off at £10m but I'd want a sell-on clause in there.

That said, PL teams pay daft money for young English players and they both have good potential.

Andrew Robertson had played nearly 200 games, including a season in the Premier League when Liverpool signed him as a 23 year old from Hull for £8m, with the best will in the world neither Coulson or Spence are anywhere near that standard and neither have held down a regular starting position this season. Coulson has started 20 league games and Spence 16 league games, true they have potential but Coulson is 22 and needs to be a week in week out starter, Spence is coming up 20 and could be seen as a project by a big club but anything more than £2/3m I don’t think is realistic in the current climate.

boromike makes a good point re gibson. A couple of mill each. Oh and on the subject of Lewis Wing. I think, with the right coaching he could be terrific. In a team where he had more quality around him, I think we would see a different player. He would have better movement in front if him and around him to pick passes. He looked good a year ago, you don't just become crap overnight surely!

Pre lockdown I was of the opinion we would get more for Coulson but now I think it’s Spence who is the one teams will be after. I hope they are both here next season as they could be vital. Current value we should be looking at between 7 and 9 for Spence and between 4 and 6 for Coulson but I wouldn’t looking to be selling any and I hope they are both happy here and see the bigger picture.

There's a big difference between what they're "worth" and what clubs will offer.

Spence might only be "worth" £2m-£3m say as the player he currently is. But would we sell at that price? He has bags of potential and the asset everyone wants that you can't teach, genuine explosive pace.

So the question isn't really what they're "worth" but how much would it take to tempt us to sell and would anyone offer that? A premier League club with money to spare might feel £8m is a risk worth taking. We might think that's too good to turn down.

If we were only offered £2m or whatever I'd suspect we'd reject it because he has potential to be worth so much more.

Gibson isn't a great comparison because we were selling the finished product in that instance.

Burnley bid 9m for dale fry. We quoted them 20m this season.

Coulson still has a long way to go to prove he can make it. He has great potential, but as yet it is nowhere near looking fulfilled. I am not sure what he is as yet and I think Woodgate and now Warnock aren’t sure either. He is quick, but he wanders about and needs to show more discipline when out of possession, hopefully that comes with gametime. I would say he would be worth around £3M-£4M at present. Spence has grasped his opportunities more for me and looks the more likely to develop, his worth i would say was around £10M-£12M. If either were sold I would want a 25% sell on clause added in too. (I doubt many will risk that sort of money in truth to tempt us to part)

I think Fry is massively overrated myself but at the time our manager thought he was our best player. I'd take £9m now, but would trust Warnock. If he thinks he can help him become a top defender then good enough for me. As it stands he's a fairly average championship one who can play a bit. He's not a kid anymore. 23 in August and he's played nearly 100 games now. Big season for him next year.

Think Fry needs an experienced head alongside him. Too much pressure to be the leader of the back 4. Friend isn't the right player for that because he isn't a CB. We could do with a proper leader at the back for him to play alongside. Someone like Ben Gibson.

To be honest, I've never really seen much in Fry to think he'll be a top level player. He carries the ball quite well out of defence but he doesn't physically impose himself enough and his positioning can be a bit iffy. Mistakes like the one against Bristol aren't too frequent so I'm not worried about that side of the game.

I don't even see him being as good as some of the other big prospects we've had at the back in previous seasons that never reached the potential we thought they had like Williams, Bates, Wheater & Gibson.

I agree with this. I would love these fees to be even close, however I think sometimes valuations on here seem out of kilter with the real world. They are both defenders in a bottom half championship club that needs money.

I'm really not surre. I like them both, and they could prove to be premier league players, but it's not nailed on. I could see any future for them, ranging from highly rated top flight players to champiuonship squad players. They're at the critical point in their development really, many player just fail to kick on. I cetainly don't think we're at the point where a club will gamble a big transfer on Coulson, pehaps someone will do so on Djed. We're probably not in a position to turn down big offers, so we may not necessarily get what they're worth. We'll just get the highest bid.

Hence the sell on clause, I'd hate it if we lost them to Southampton, sheff u etc for a few million and then they went to man u/Liverpool for 40 Mill a couple of seasons later.
Nobody is going to agree a 50% sell on clause, especially if they are already paying several million pounds. Its usual to have a sell on clause if you are agreeing to a lower initial fee, but its more like 10-20% not 50%

Spence has been linked to Spurs, West Ham and Brighton. I think he a brilliant player and he will play for England one day. 18m in this current market?

Coulson has been linked to Newcastle. 12m?

We need a massive rebuild. Out of the current squad I would only be disappointed if we lost Spence, Wing, Tav and Coulson.

Wolves, Spurs, and Newcastle are all interested. I suggested a 18m for Spence.

15-18m and he will be gone

15m I suggested for Spence. I always thought he looked a glass act.

I think Coulson will come good as well.

I got it wrong with Coulson, with Spence I have undervalued him at 20m.
