What the Chelsea game confirmed about Isaiah for me

He’s an extremely good wingback, I’d like to see him play more at right back. He’s excellent defensively and has that burst of energy going forward.

Forss is a better winger in my opinion and to have jones behind him could be pretty explosive.
I do think they would be a good pairing with isaiah overlapping when Forss moves inside

What point are you trying to make?

He’s really developed his defensive side, he would be better utilised at the back in my opinion.

You were constantly slating him when he was actually playing at wingback, saying he clearly wasn't one.

Now suddenly you've learnt that he's actually a really good one because of a win over Chelsea, after he's spent most of the season playing as a winger.

I just think it's a bit rich for you to come out with it when you were hammering him for months on end.

I posted about it before the Chelsea game actually, I notice you didn’t see that one.

I have also praised jones a lot. He’s a very frustrating footballer and as an out and out winger I don’t think he will reach his maximum playing there because he isn’t consistent enough.

Defensively he’s really upped his game and I think that’s where he would best be utilised especially when Forss comes back.

He's always defended well at wingback.

It's nothing new.

I’m not sure Isaiah is a good defender, he’s really good at tracking back, covering and getting extra bodies where the shape requires, but as a 1v1 defender I think he’d get exposed horrifically over and over again. Wing back - he’s absolutely made for it
There is a huge difference between playing wing back and full back. A winger playing wing back isn't a huge defensive risk because they at least still have a right-sided CB covering. A full back spends a lot of time in their own box when defending and they need to be able to challenge aerially and have good positioning and awareness which is something that defenders learn through experience. Putting a winger in at right-back could be suicide. He can definitely do the wing back type duties but I wouldn't be confident of him being able to do the full back type duties.

He defends well as a winger too, that's why often goosed after 65 70 minutes.
He has never shirked defensive responsibility. Our right back always has an easier game with him in front of them ....unlike someone else that has been tried wide right this season.

And also most of the second half, as a winger

I think Carrick will only play with one attacking fullback and with right footed forwards crosses from the left are converted more often, so it's unlikely he'd go with Izzy at RB consistently.

His pace and ability to nick the ball away from opponents is a strong part of his game though.

I think the bit he needs to improve on its his delivery/final ball, do that and he's a PL player.

I agree but his crossing and shooting is very poor and very weak, I don’t think it’s something he will improve on consistently.

He’s made to be a wingback/attacking full back.

It's weak because he side foots them and goes for accuracy instead of power. It really infuriates me when it seems like he passes the ball back to the keeper. He doesn't have to blast it every time but mixing it up and putting his laces through a few would be an improvement. It's something he could definitely work on. It's probably one attribute in a player that I think could be easily improved because it's just making a decision to shoot with laces instead of side foot so it doesn't even need a new skill to learn. I assume he can hit a more powerful shot so it's a choice he's making which can be fixed with a bit of practice.

I just don’t think he has the power to do it, everything he does looks floated.

Those are his limitations but his pace and defensive skills could really be used in a more defensive role when Forss is back.
