What the British Public has noticed re consequences of Brexit

I think the remain camp did run a lacklustre campaign, based on financial sense. The leave campaign appealed to the emotions and a (fictional) return to the 'good old days'. An object lesson on what voters respond to.
Add to that targeted lies on Social Media and many who voted leave were swayed. My Uncle (he's since died since the referendum) was a smart bloke, but voted leave as he was sick of "them" coming here to us "our" NHS. As a avid Facebook user he was bombarded with that type of rhetoric, plus the lies on Turkey with their big population imminently joining the EU (it will never happen).

There was of course reasons behind Brexit that we'll not find out in our lifetimes. Why didn't anyone ever mention the result of the vote was only advisory? Why didn't anyone question the actual question on the ballot paper? It made leaving a 40 year political union sound like handing in a gym membership. There was no attempt by anyone to truly demonstrate how connected Europe is and how that is a good thing.

Brexit is a project started on the 90's to the benefit of a select group of people. It was nothing to do with improving Britain or it's people.

The leavers will never, ever admit to making the wrong choice, much less their reasons for doing it.

To be fair many have. And respect to those who have, it's hard to admit you were wrong. Even more so when you were told repeatedly you were being taken for fools. In many cases in perhaps not the most diplomatic way either (which didn't help).

But yeah plenty are still either taken in by Johnson (although you'd have to be incredibly gullible and/or only get your news from very specific and limited sources to not realise he's an absolute charlatan by now) or just refuse to accept they could possibly have been wrong.

To people with certain ways of viewing the world (not necessarily racist I should say, but racists are certainly one of the categories) the leave campaign made a very compelling, emotive case. A lot of it utter BS, but apparently lying is now fully acceptable in a modern democracy.

They won, we lost erm get over it (strangely not hearing that one so much these days, can't think why).

But back to the title of this post..........
I have noticed that the railways have been all but nationalised- Brexit or covid it doesn't matter, When Corbyn advocated that ....well guess what he was called.
I have noticed that many utility companies are said to be about to go bust (the one I use already has). These companies are asking for a government bailout- in other words nationalisation. When Corbyn advocated that ....well guess what he was called.

I voted remain but I wasn’t too concerned if we did leave if that’s how the vote went both leave & remain told so many lies it was always going to be an absolute disaster when the reality hit home.
the only thing I wanted to fight tooth & nail against was a Tory brexit.
Anyone who thought they would act in the interests of the British & not line the pockets of their friends & themselves bigger fools them for believing it.

We were part of this thing called the European Internal Energy Market. Responsible for the energy requirements of 460,000,000 people. Now we have left it. Maybe the prices below have some relationship to this emerging problem.
I watched the speech by the Energy Minister in Parliament…he looked like a very frightened man.

Very informative- thanks Ziggy

The biggest mistake the remain politicians and establishment made was complacently not countering the lies about the EU and informing the public of the pro’s to more than compensate for the cons.

I've noticed that Asbsolutely Nothing Is Better than before.

I've also noticed that Everything This Government Touches Turns To Rat ****.

Also noticed plenty of dunces realising they have been sold a pup by BoJo.

Enjoy your fuel poverty thanks to Tory failure to sensibly balance power generation. As Boris tells the world we are doing a great job to tackle climate change.😂

I notice a strong absence of the you lost get over it crowd on this thread.

So maybe electricity companies going bust and a three day week was all it took for people to realise how bad brexit is.

Like I said above, I was depressed that food shortages alone didn't make them realise.

Hi Ziggy, Do you have a link to that? I’d like to share with a wider audience, if you don’t mind.

Genuine question: is there any way a GE can be called early or do we have to wait til May 2024 to get these charlatans, chancers, criminals and incompetents out?

Yes, theoretically, if enough MPs vote for it. It obviously isn't going to happen though. Hope it was worth it to "get brexit done".

To be fair many people were just sick of hearing about it apparently. Wonder how that's worked out for them?

The Tories were talking about a mid 2023 election, it is totally up to them if its brought forward unless a large portion of them grow a spine to call a vote of no confidence.

It's going to be a hard call for them as the longer they leave it the more of their lies, broken promises and incompetence will come back to bite them.

You would think that Labour SHOULD be streets ahead in the polls after all of the events of the last couple of years (Cronyism, Cummings, Brexit, covid, contining illegal immigration etc) but according to New Statesman Poll, we would still end up with a hung parliament.

Look, it’s got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Brexit….

Right across the EU energy companies are going bust…..
There is a massive, crippling shortage of lorry drivers…..
There is a blood tube shortage leading to crucial testing being delayed …..
Deliveries of online purchases are taking weeks where before they would take days
Supermarket shelves are empty of multiple products …..
There is a CO2 shortage threatening the food AND BEER (😭) industry…..
Energy poverty looms for many to the point that the lights are in danger of going out…..
The hospitality industry is struggling with mass staff shortages……
There is a blood bottle shortage leading to crucial testing being delayed …..
Good fruit and veg is lying unpicked & rotting in fields…..
Farmers are planning on huge reductions in what they produce at home in future….
People are stocking up on toys as there may not be enough supply for Santa Claus day….

Jeeeeeesh….it’s not just us, you know…..

What’s that you say?….. it is just us? Oh….
