What is the smallest amount of money that would be life changing for you?

Everyone wants to win big on the lottery - £10m would be huge for almost anyone.

But what is the smallest amount of money that would make a significant change to your life, or your current situation?

We own 90% of our house but have zero savings and next-to-zero pension. We're 'just about managing' and at 58, in a dead-end job, that's not likely to change. I'll be working till 67 then I'll be cash poor. I'd like to travel the world, of course, but I don't really care; I've always lived a fairly humble life but hopefully a fairly rich inner one. My big regret is that as things stand, I wont be able to help my daughter or stepdaughters get out of the rental trap by helping them with deposits. So probably like others, 60(i.e.3 x 20)k would give me the feeling of contentment that I'd done enough to get them started.

To change my life would be to also change others lives so I honestly can`t think of a smallest amount because I don`t think it`ll be enough to help all those that need help from people like me.

I worry not only for myself but for my neighbours, the homeless, the starving, the freezing, etc.

Changing their lives would change mine

Probably in the trillions

I think 30k would do to speed up my planned house move, but I’ll still be working.
Be a big change in lifestyle to move away from the starter home.
Don’t you get something like £40k annual interest on a million pound?
I could live off that interest, so that’s what I would like.

My mum died about a year ago (dad went in 2010) and once my sister and I had dealt with the estate, sold her flat and split the proceeds 50/50 as per the will, I was left with an amount that would probably greatly exceed the number I'd put on here, but guess what? It doesn't really feel like it's changed that much - or at least not in terms of a massive change in lifestyle.

Don't get me wrong, it's made a difference, but it's more things like clearing my mortgage - had about 5 years to run, fixed rate expired November so inflationary bullet dodged there - and not really being horrified when I found out I needed a new roof yesterday, but in terms of day to day expenditure, nothing much has changed. I think part of that is being absolutely terrified of ballsing up a windfall that'll be a once in a lifetime thing. A bit boring really, but a very good version of boring.

In all honesty I think not having a mortgage payment anymore will make more difference than the lump sum.

At 35 with 3 kids an impending divorce then i'd say 25-30k, or enough to go out today with a deposit for a house would be life changing.

To quit my job and totally change my whole lifestyle, then 2m
I'm the same custody battle incoming - quoted at £20-£30k to see it though and another £250k on top for my own place.

£150k-£250k or there abouts would be a huge improvement and transform many aspects of my life, without much external difference to the casual observer.

Obviously this isn't Lottery dream life retirement levels, but it would definitely give a bit of peace and assurance about my future.
