What is Israel trying to achieve?

Just my thoughts as I don’t normally enter political discussions on here…

IMO with the expected upcoming targeted Israeli retaliations, the resulting major devastation of Iran’s current economy and a long overdue open public backlash against them, this Islamic Public regime will come to regret this very stupid move which they invited. They would have been better off sticking with their proxies which will now without their support be even further weakened.

I’m inclined to agree, this attack has again just shown their limitations.

The US is not talking about deterring Israel’s response now, they’re talking about assisting them. Starmer didn’t rule out UK assistance when asked.

Iran has a truly terrible regime but history shows what follows if they are removed is often just as dangerous, or worse.

I think that's possible but I'd say the opposite is more likely. Being attacked by an outside force which is unpopular in the region is a powerful trigger for solidarity.

If the UK was invaded or attacked by a foreign nation you would support anyone that was willing to defend us

If Iran’s oil fields, nuclear arsenals and missile launching sites were wiped out and US global trade sanctions re-introduced, I don’t think there is sufficient “solidarity“ support in the region available for the current or successor regime to recover from.

Iran is not popular in the Middle East.

They ferment bother in many Arab countries.

They’re not Arabs but there is an old saying that they will fight Israel to the last Arab.
