What does Kieran Scott actually do?

To me Scott's influence is 2022 onwards, what happened in 2021 was not him.

He must be influencing this Summer's signings and it takes between 3 and 6 months to judge them as a general rule.

Bernie Slaven was a classic example for me - in his first 6 months he lacked any sort of pace, his reaction times were slow too, he struggled to head the ball and at times look disconnected with the rest of the team. To his credit he tried and had scored a few goals. He didn't look a Div 2 (Championship forward) say in Feb 1986 after signing in September 1985.

Over the next 7 years he went on to be one of our top modern goal scorers, helping with 3 promotions and played for ROI at the 1990 World Cup.
It can also take 6-24 months from identifying players to getting the right time to for stars to align and get them on board. You have to have a parent club wanting to release them, maybe a contract to run down, maybe a management change at a club to make a player available. The full impact of Scotts role could not be visible for another 4 or 5 years.

1 GK Zack Steffen - Loan
3 DF Ryan Giles - Loan
4 MF Alex Mowatt - Loan
8 MF Riley McGree - £3m
9 FW Rodrigo Muniz - Loan
13 FW Matthew Hoppe - £3m
14 DF Tommy Smith - Free
20 MF Caolan Boyd-Munce £135k
21 FW Marcus Forss - £3m
23 GK Liam Roberts - Free
26 DF Darragh Lenihan - Free
37 MF Kamil Conteh - Free

Then there's the outgoings..

Djed Spence £12.5m
Marcus Tavernier £10m
Dejan Stojanovic £300k
Nathan Wood £550k
Toyosi Olusanya £150k

The signs would point towards a loan, a free transfer and another £3m signing!

I

Bausors remit is quite clear I think, regardless of the perception of whether he does it well or not.

I’m just genuinely not sure what Scott does or what benefits we are reaping. Or is he just around to make sure we don’t appoint a duffer when Wilder leaves?
Interesting that you ask a football forum, why not just email the club and ask them...or wait a year or two to see if things improve. If you expect instant gratification you're supporting the wrong team.

There’s very knowledgeable people on this forum who will offer a far more detailed and honest review than MFC.

I agree though maybe end of the January window will be a better time to take stock and see how he is helping to shape the squad.

Both Wilder and Scott emphasise that Keiran Scott is all about putting in place a long term strategy at the club. So, even after Wilder leaves the next manager comes in and will be recruited to fit into a system. They will have a policy of the type of players signed, fees paid, a system of play on the field. And a wage structure. It is all going to be for the long term isnt it so you no longer chop and change every time you have a new manager.
Surely then it makes sense that signings may well have been on the radar a long time. I really hope that the recent signings prove to be a big success. This is a very big shake up at Boro and the loss of a key player in Tav is really being felt at the moment. It is a very disapointing start yet we have some real purple patches in games. Can the new players help make a big difference? I hope so.
Which is all fine, but KS won’t be here very long and they’ll rip all that up and start again with a new “golden thread”.
We’ve had all these new dawns that last five minutes, the Juninho link up - the Athletico Madrid partnership - Bevingtons golden thread etc etc.

We will continue to lurch from one style to another, every summer our squad will be built up largely of loans who come and go, building nothing long term. That 25m could of been reinvested in a new, longer term squad.

Steffen, Giles, Mowatt, Muniz….the merry go round will start again next summer. I doubt KS will be here to strategise it.

The "nucleus" of the club is what Scott was brought in to fix, on and off the pitch, so even if he himself is to leave in the future, the overall structure remains the same.

We can all see we "own" a very weak squad, which always has to be improved by loan players.
However, it would need £££ to fix that, which we don't really have.

The other option is what's already happening, bringing in young players on long term contracts, relatively cheap, and adapting them into our system...

Hoppe is 21, signed a 4 year deal.
Forss is 23, signed a 4 year deal.
McGree is 23, signed a 3 and a half year deal.
Boyd-Munce is 22, signed a 3 and a half year deal.

It also goes down to the youth team... Bryant Bilongo (20) and Kamil Conteh (19) are good examples.

Even if it doesn't work out this season... We can all almost guarantee at least some of those players will be better next year, and the year after, and the year after that...

So some of our 'experts' will offer their speculative views on what he does and that's far more reliable than the club's version. Hmmm, glad you've got such little faith in the club and so much in its it's expert fans who really know nowt, but are making guesses. Yep sounds good to me...

Calm down Kieron.

No sorry, it's Bungy Dinsdale, AKA Michael Dinsdale, from Blue Hall, Norton. Went to Blakeston Lane School, now live in New Zealand. Mate, if you have to resort to childishness like that then it's pretty obvious to me that your views are equally immature so I'll duly ignore them too.
Just getting sick of all the Chicken Lickens running around like the sky's fallen in after five games. No intestinal fortitude for too many Boro fans.

It’s a Boro football forum, what do you expect? Everyone to have the same views as you? After our recent form people are going to ask questions and use this as a forum to vent. I’m afraid you’re just going to have to suck it up.

Besides, it’d be a pretty boring place and you wouldn’t be able to do your self righteous rants if everyone agreed with you Kieran lad.

As Boromart and Ash88 said, he is starting to put foundations down to hopefully create a robust pathway for younger players to step into the first team. rather than having to buy 10 players every season we buy 2 or 3. This will obviously take years to be fully integrated. Watching the highlights of the u21 you can see a similar style ofnplay to the first team so things are ticking along.
