What do you consider a good salary?

Given that inflation has absolutely decimated the value of the pounds in your pocket over the past 24 months what do you now consider a good salary (Exclude the south east as it's a **** show).

Personally I'd say at this time 75k is a decent base (maybe 50k in the north east).

Shows how absolutely fecked we are.

When I was manager of a restaurant in Brighton my salary was £25k a year, that's the most I've ever been on. I had no mortgage and rent was about £600 just for a house share.

Great question, I suppose it depends on overall household income, how many dependants you have etc.

If I take my household situation then I’d say 50k is a decent household income.

Edit* I’m not saying that is what I earn because it isn’t!

It’s certainly a lot more than I would have said if you’d asked me 5 years ago, when I’d have said 40k.
Now I’d say £50k +

Had the old adage you should always earn at least your equivalent age. That was when I started work in the 1980’s so may be a bit out of date now

Anything that pays the bills, covering mortgage, food, utilities, enables at least one decent holiday abroad and maybe a UK staycation, running a car like an Audi A4 or similar quality, a few nights out a month and enough to put by for a rainy day. How much that is depends on your age, stage of life, whether you have become mortgage free etc.

I would say single person with a mortgage/rent £45K+
Couple With say 2 kids as above £65K+
Single Parent 2 Kids as above £50K+
Single retired no mortgage/rent £35K+
Couple retired no mortgage £46K+

All depends on what your out goings are and how you spend your spare cash.

I have 2 kids living at home, rent free.

18 year old daughter, at college, works part time, earns approx £200 per week. Pays for her own driving lessons, saving for a car. Doesn't go out much.

24 year old son, bricklayer, earns £200 per day cash in hand. Only outgoings are for his daughter. He has no savings, no car and is lending money off me every Monday. Not sure what his vice is, and I don't want to know
😀.

Must be a pretty affluent board if you're talking £50k as only 'decent'.

I thought I was fairly comfortable on a lot less than that but now I feel like a poor relation.

Who was that Harry Enfield character? "I'm considerably richer than you are"
I took decent to mean pretty good, not average enough to cover the basics, we may well interpret the question differently i’d guess
