The Chief Nurse at my work said at the start that if you were within one metre of an infected person then the virus could be transmitted to you. Further away and it wouldn't transmit2 meters isn't sustainable. Look at a classroom for example, one teacher had said in the gazette with the current social distance rules they could only teach 8 pupils per class and would have to deliver them lunch instead of having them all on one hall. Ridiculous.
Opinion polls seem to be very much against opening restaurants, schools, pubs or large events.
Keep things locked down
Not strictly true mate. The questioning in polls can easily achieve whatever you want them to.
On a side note if I were a teacher or furloughed on 80% salary I'd be saying lock down for life too.
Not strictly true mate.
Me and the rest of the lads in our kitchen at work have all been put on furlough and we are all itching to get back to work and do what we do best.
We've also just had our starter pack through for our eldest daughter who is due to start reception in September. They are doing a lot of stuff on Microsoft Teams. Schools have to reopen in September for the sake of those taking final year exams and those starting their school adventure.
If people don't want them open, they'll just not go to them. Just as the lockdown was people led, coming out will be the same. Those wanting to keep schools, pubs and restaurants locked down I get where they are coming from. Schools won't go back till September now, it's a waste of time opening them for a few weeks only for the 6 weeks holiday to start.
With regards to pubs and restaurants when do these people want them opening? Because if isn't before the end of September for example then they won't have any to visit at Xmas time or next year as they will all be shut, permanently from no fault of their own.
Pubs, restaurants, cafes, basically the entire hospitality industry will open once the government stops the job retention scheme. That is obvious.
Other people have already given some reasons but how about just doing it out of an abundance of caution? If masks can reduce transmission and social distancing can reduce transmission, why not do both? It's not an either/or situation. Why the mask though if social distancing is in place?
That's one theory. Other theories, based on laboratory studies and high-resolution video of people coughing or sneezing, suggest that virus particles can travel up to several metres. Whether a person several metres away would typically receive a high enough viral load to trigger an infection is yet another of the many unknowns with this newly-emerged virus. The

I'm aware of that. I'm playing devil's advocate.Other people have already given some reasons but how about just doing it out of an abundance of caution? If masks can reduce transmission and social distancing can reduce transmission, why not do both? It's not an either/or situation.
Why not wear both?I'm aware of that. I'm playing devil's advocate.
I'm looking forward to seeing the person in a hazmat suit or an old fashioned diving helmet.
Research into transmission is taking place to understand how transmission is taking place, following health workers. That's one theory. The general consensus seems to be that around 2 metres is probably enough to avoid infection but once again, there isn't enough data yet to be absolutely, 100% certain what the required distance is.
Children are not on holiday. My wife is a teacher and is putting lessons on everyday for the children. My six year old is doing homeschooling on the dojo app and her teacher is respondingThey will want schools to be opened as soon as reasonably possible. In a lot of cases it will be impossible for the parents to go back to work if the child is not in school and this will be all about getting the economy kick started.
As for the 6 week holiday, why? Usually the summer holidays are just that, kids off for 6 weeks, parents taking leave entitlement, everyone jetting off to sunny spain, or Primrose Valley, teachers recharging their batteries.
But what is the point of the 6 week break this year, they are currently having one. Nobody is going anywhere on holiday. Parents will have just gone back to work when they have to once again stay home.
So, modify this years summer break, I don't know how but I know it's not needed.

I'm a teacher and I'm certainly not 'having a break' right now. Sure, I'm not physically in school very much (roughly one day out of every ten), but I'm working at home. There's report writing, subject lead work, planning and delivering work/learning for pupils at home, responding to endless parent requests/questions, doing online professional development etc. That's not usually what I do during my break from school.
I'm also trying to deliver some sort of education for my daughter. When I'm working at home, I feel guilty that I'm not supporting her learning. When I'm engaged in teaching her, I feel guilty that I'm not working.
It's not a break.
Yes, but other than key workers, we've been actively encouraged not to travel. Where I live, there have been pictures circulating of the Manchester Metrolink completely empty during the rush hour period. Also, what exactly is deemed to be a necessary journey? I take one return bus trip a week at the moment and, sparsely populated though the buses are, I must admit to feeling slightly uncomfortable when someone gets on - or off if they're coming from behind me. Impossible to maintain the 2m on a clipper bus. Back to necessary journeys, is it necessary to want to go and see one's elderly parents 100 miles away, for example?Buses an trams been running throughout the lock-down.
