Put aside your heart for players

What do you predict Boro in terms of who’ll they will sell, and as a result who they will buy

On the face of it If everyone was fit I would say we just need cover for ELL and now a 3rd choice keeper. The potential bad injury to Bangura and prolonged absence of Forss changes that a little.
I am not a big fan of bringing Giles back for even half the money that Hull spent on him. That said, it is not my money and if Carrick feels we should get him, with the impact that has on the remaining budget for a forward then that is fine with me.

I think we will probably look at another speculative signing for ELL cover, someone who we have never heard of from a foreign land. Lankshear gets mentioned but as Carrick seems to like Finch a lot I dont see the point of developing another teams forward at the expense of minutes for Finch or Coburn.

We have good numbers for the 3 behind ELL, though if we lose Jones we dont have that pace to get in behind and with Forss nowhere near ready we seem potentially vulnerable on the right. If Jones gets injured at the same time as Ayling we have a pretty sterile attacking force on the right. Burgzorg may have a trick for covering Jones. I am not sure who is the RB for the U21, Gitau? Is he close? If not VDB covered well last season, without that attacking element. Dijksteel will probably be away if someone comes in for him.

Other than that I think we are looking good. I liked the look of Gilbert at the backend of last season and he seems to be getting positive reviews in training so expect him to stay and fight for the number 10 spot.

If they want to challenge for top 2 we are short of quality.
First choice 10 and Archer. Both could be very good season long loans of quality, with options to sign permanently
Giles signed on the right deal.
Another CM (to move Barlaser on)

Space been created with the 3 loanees going back (Greenwood, Thomas, O'Brien)
Also Silvera gone, McNair contract ended

Rogers, Dijksteel or Smith, Barlaser still to move on.

Archer isn’t going to ignore premier league interest to sit on the bench. We have a first choice 10 in azaz

We need more than LL who will get injured and lose form.
Archer and LL would enable Carrick to have a very similar player on the pitch every match for the entire match.
Coburn would be an excellent alternative style and supplement.

I'm sorry but I don't think Azaz is anywhere near good enough to be a starter at 10 for a team going after autos.

I don't see any of our crown jewels being sold - Lath, Hackney, Rav to be here at least until christmas and only sold if they're great but we flop.

I think Dijksteel will go, maybe Barlaser.

I see a LB, a 10 and a replacement for Barlaser if he goes. Maybe a loanee CF and Coburn out on loan

I agree we could do with another striker, but you are looking at least 10 million for archer and that is very optimistic. Lath is probably worth 15 million at least as well. A championship club without parachute payments simply can’t afford to have two strikers that good. Azaz got 21 goal contributions last season, not sure how many you think a first choice number 10 should have. 10th in the league for g/a most above him are strikers

Azaz was one of the best players in the league last season, expecting us to upgrade him is unrealistic for me.

I want the season to start now, I think we are ready (and a lot of other teams aren't). One more atttacking player and Giles would be the icing on the cake.

New LWB
New DM
New No10
New CF
Out
Glover
Hemming
Dijksteel
Hoppe
Lenahan
Engel
Barlaser maybe

I think we will keep hold of Rav / Hackney and LL. Clearly a ridiculous bid for any of them would see them sold. Yet we can't do anything about that.

Dijksteel and Hoppe will be shipped out. Also maybe Glover. Forss is entering his final year. So if he's no intention of signing them will probably be sold .

The goal keeping situation is interesting. A decision needs making on Hemming and Brynn One will be No2 and the other will either be loaned out or even sold.

Incomings based on current squad not changing. A 3rd choice keeper and a young CF probably on loan from a prem club. Also maybe a LB depending on recent injury rumors and Giles links.

Forss is signed to 2026

2 keepers will leave, Glover + Hemming or Brynn.
1 older keeper to come in as 3rd choice.

Hoppe off to USA.
Doesn't need specifically replacing.

I don't think anyone else will leave unless we get a crazy offer. Maybe Djiksteel but he provides decent cover on the right. In fact more than decent if he gets his confidence back.

If we get another striker/forward in it will be to strengthen the squad, not to replace someone.

*edit*
We'll get another LB to replace Bangura if he is out. Maybe Giles, maybe not.

Argggghhh he’s get two years still, how many times will this myth be repeated 😂

I think it's becoming the board's new running joke, like repeating Jonjoe Shelvey and one other" ad infinitum.

If anyone still actually believes he's entering his last year, why do they think there hasn't been a dickie bird about a new contract?

I am not expecting too much, despite hearing certain reports over the January window that we were gearing up to spend a sizeable budget compared to recent pre-seasons. .. or that we're giving Carrick a 'war chest' to work with to make sure we get the job done this time but guess that is the same old thing we hear every year

I expect it will mostly revolve around batting off bids for Lath and trying to convince him his future is here, and obviously if Bangura is injured, there'll be other players we will need as a replacement for strength-in-depth.. that goes for all areas of the squad I guess

Would be happy if we could bring back Ryal Giles as was rumored heavily only the other week but I have not read much on that one since it went quiet - I have not seen anything further reported on that situation so not up to date .. he could have signed for someone else for all I know. Haha

It will be great to see Lenihan playing again, like a new signing!

Ideally, would like to see another forward brought in, referring back to what I said about the rumors of Carrick having a 'competitive' budget to work with compared to the previous Summer windows that were talked about, wouldn't it be amazing if it was green-lighted and we ended up like someone in the Archer mold..

joking, obvs no chance haha

Given we're bringing in players like Lath and co. of late and turning them into 15K - 20K + assets, then I trust Scott and his team 100% to be looking at unknowns/relative unknowns in leagues all over Europe and elsewhere and hopefully, if and when they arrive, they enjoy the same if not better success that Lath's had

I thought Dieng's position was uncertain at one point a few months back??? were rumors here and there.

Would be delighted if he is committing to us for the coming season at least, Defo is one of the best in the league and a solid GK is always a vital position that needs to be of strength in a team with actual ambitions to go up.

Furthermore, I am delighted McGree has signed on, the talks we had with him must have reassured him that we are going in the right direction and we will be strengthened enough to compete. Looking forward to us getting a full season out of Riley, hopefully, one with many goals and assists.

I did not think we would convince him to stay on after all the hoo-hah made about him being disgruntled about promises we had made him about being promoted and spending to get there, only for that not quite to materialize, Did he not turn down Celtic and CL football based on some strong promises and that is what it was all over, initially??

Anyway .. who else I think we may bring in ... some cheeky clever loans I imagine we are eyeing ...

if Giles is still 'on' then great, hope it doesn't drag out until deadline day, but one to keep an eye on ... I'm still reading certain folk who think they know that Giles is 100% on, others not so much ... local rag the other day almost spoke of it like it was imminent didn't they?? which is unusual for them unless there was stronger reporting on the move confirming it

As it stands I think we certainly need one or two more 'significant' incoming signings if we really do want to compete within that top four - six positions ... the fact we have Lath still is the main thing that gives me some hope we may well do it this time around but think there's a bit of work to do yet before we can be sure of that

Anyway #UTFB and all that
