What a joke Eddie Hearn is

PPV view in general winds me up😕

I pay a full sky sports package and never really watch dodgy streams (although I will for the champions league final if not on YouTube). Yet I have to pay for boxing despite paying for sky sports every month.

I for one won't be paying £30 or even £20. I guess the argument is you get value for money with the under card etc but I've no interest. So I will definitely be watching it via 'other means'....£20 or £50 they ain't getting anything from me. Yet I'll still watch it.

I'm saying now that I couldn't justify £40 but as the fight rolls round and gets closer then I can't guarantee I wouldn't cave in and buy it.

I could honestly see them gambling on this and sticking it at 39.99

Eh??? That doesn’t really make sense - I’m telling you why it’s not in England - I.e. there is not enough fans to make enough revenue to pay the fighters. The only people who can afford to put it on during Covid are the Saudis.
behave, the money doesn't largely come from fans in stadiums but from PPV and advertising.

They could both make more money from this fight than any other fight they have had, and have it in England.

This is about pure greed.

I know I don't, my point is that I do not care about undercard fights.
Any of them.
So I don't count them as part of the value for extortionate PPV fights.

But I'm not really a boxing fan, I just watch the heavyweight title fights if there's British boxers involved.
Joe Joyce tweeted yesterday he's keen on the venue/details being finalized as he's hoping to fight Usyk on the undercard. Will be a good addition.

A huge chunk of the revenue comes from ticket sales. If the fight is going to happen in the summer it wouldnt be feasible if you could only have Wembley at 25% capacity.

In fairness Zorro, whilst I hear your points and largely agree, it's not like the UK is some shining beacon of morality and decency is it. We're also a tin pot dictatorship or certainly headed that way.
Have you ever lived in or spent time in actual unfree countries? I’m guessing you wouldn’t make such a rash statement if so.

I should preface this by saying I'm not really a boxing fan these days, but some of Muhammad Ali's greatest, most memorable fights were hosted by horrendous regimes. We all watch and talk about When We Were Kings, despite it openly acknowledging and discussing the awful crimes against humanity of that country's dictator.
That’s right. Both the rumble in the jungle and thrilla in Manila were hosted by despots.

It isn't a rash statement at all CW. If you're happy with the pacy removal of democracy in the UK that's your call but I'm not.

Freedoms and democracy aren’t the same thing. I wouldn’t say I’m happy but labelling the situation as anywhere approaching Saudi Arabia isn’t realistic.

Freedoms and democracy are hugely interlinked to suggest otherwise is daft. For examply, millions of people are now having their freedoms effectively removed in terms of having the vote. Need I mention things like Windrush or the effective privatisation of education for many people? How about the absolute lack of objective and fair reporting by the huge majority of the press? Britain certainly isn't Great anymore that's a fact and our freedoms and democracy are being eroded quickly.

Most things are about greed these days but what I’m saying is it’s never going to happen in England without a crowd and I don’t agree with the op that taht therefore makes Eddie H a ******. He has a lot of input but this is not purely his decision.

the other thing is if I go along with your belief that it could be held in England and money still be made , just imagine how crap that would be with a few thousand fans. It’s similar to the reasons the champions league is being moved it would just be rubbish in front of a few fans.

I agree that Eddie Howe isn't an ****, he's doing his job.

Yes lots of people are greedy, that isn't to say it's right, that ethics are irrelevant.

If your point is about the atmosphere, not the money, well maybe, but go fight in New Zealand where there is barely any covid issues and you can have a full crowd and an ethical government

As much as I don't like Hearn he's not the only promoter involved here. Not only that I remember him saying a while ago that if he offered AJ and Fury an option of 100m in Saudi or 50m at Wembley they'd both choose Saudi.

Blame the fighters as much as him.

Nowhere near realistic. Unless I didn't notice the UK carrying out crucifixions, beheadings, stoning of women and chopping off limbs.

Thats not correct. Joyce wants it to be finalised cos his fight with Usyk cant be finalised until thats confirmed. If AJ doesnt fight Fury next, his mandatory is Usyk. Joyce v Usyk wont be on the undercard!

You're somewhat missing the point. I have not at any point said we have as stone age and brutal a regime as Saudi as that would be ludicrous. However, the point I was making is that if morality of the nation is a key concern when staging the fight, we can't exactly claim to be somw upstanding clean living nation when we have pretty much the least democratic regime in Western society.

Just out of interest.

Given June 21st will potentially signal the end of restrictions, why can't the fight be held in the UK in an outdoor venue?
