Never thought I’d be asking this question, but Gibson… Stay or sell up?

Disclaimer: (Because some like to jump to conclusions) I want him to stay.

We can't cut it financially as things stand so we either take our chances with a change of ownership or we seek some outside investment.
While the ethos of buying young players and developing them is sound, I'm not sure we are financially able to keep the good ones long enough to progress year on year. Last year was a golden opportunity to boost the finances and we missed it, I can't see anything but a struggle this season.

errr, so what

Quality, performances and the league table are all that matters.
All 3 look pretty miserable at the moment.

if you think the Chairman takes no responsibility for that - that’s your call.
My view is he has to take some responsibility.
For me he doesn't take responsibility for the performance on the pitch today. He doesn't map out tactics or pick the players and neither does he coach them. He has supported his manager - blame needs at the moment to be focussed elsewhere at the moment as this form cannot continue otherwise we may face a trip to Stevenage next season.

I agree with you in that (prob splitting hairs a little) he doesn’t take responsibility for the performance.
My view is he has to take some responsibility for what Carrick has to work with.

I remember last season people were clear - someone could get more out of the squad and Carrick came along and did just that.

This may (hopefully not) be different

We should be thankful we haven't been in the same trouble as other clubs over the years. See Charlton, Blackburn etc. Where the fans have been actively protesting.

HOWEVER, when a fella takes money out the club to build himself a new mansion, a golf course, and a 3 million private pub. That's when it frustrates me

Look at the clubs that have sold when stable then fell apart: Cardiff, Reading, Derby, Wigan, Sunderland... Unless we did a Newcastle, any option apart from Gibson will be a disaster

What does disaster mean tho?

There will still be a football club for everyone to support.
I’m not wishing this but, for those of us with very long memories (late 60s onwards) we witnessed some shocking football - but still pitched up.

Fans go and watch Div 1 and Div 2 teams to support their clubs

For the record, I‘m not bothered if he stays or goes.

Are we stable? It's clear we are on a tight budget otherwise we'd have offered Chuba enough to extend his contract on the back of a season where he transformed the way we played. The Tav, Spence and Chuba funds appear to have largely gone on keeping the club afloat and not on transfers and contracts. Who's to say that anybody who shows promise this season won't be sold to keep the club above water?
If we can't afford the talent to mount a promotion push, then we need to be extremely lucky in our recruitment as we so nearly did last season. Promotion is the only thing that'll change the long-term financial outlook of the club outside a change of ownership and we are heavily reliant on budget signings all coming good at the same time.
