Wembley Travel Advice

So I've never been, I was wondering what everyone would recommend public transport way and the best and or cheapest way to get there.

I'm definitely going to All In on August 27th and hopefully the Play Off Final but I'm no good at travel and I suck organising it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

August 27th ?

Cheapest way would be coach (NatEx or Megabus) from Boro. Takes a long time though.

Golders Green has a coach station that I think some coaches stop at (you’d have to check), so you’d be fairly close to Wembley (short bus ride) if that was where you got off.

We haven't decided what we're going to do yet. We may go down on the supporters coach but the only trouble with that for me is I'd imagine they'd want people back onto the coaches an hour or so after the game finishes (if we win). Wouldn't give us much time to celebrate and possibly go for a few drinks.

Another option to consider is getting the National Express coach down on the morning and a late coach back. There's one at 06.25am from Boro bus station which is supposed to get you into London for 12pm, then you could just get a tube to Wembley Park. The latest bus back is 11.30pm. Would be £37.50 each way for two people.

If you are driving and want a stress free place to park then come off the M1 at Junction 9 and park at St Albans station. Fast train 17 mins to West Hampstead and then change to Jubillee for tube 5 stops to Wembley Park.
Careful getting the train back. The Thames link platform has one northbound one with a train about every 3 minutes and the board changes to the next train as one is pulling in.
Last time we got the train back to St Albans 2 lads jumped on just as the doors were about to close. They sat down and after 5 minutes the announcement reeled of all the stops and all you could here was "F&%K we've done it again". They were headed to Peterborough which was the train after. Even worse they'd convinced some woman it was her train. She spent the next 15 minutes arguing on the phone with her partner as to which was the neatest station en route for him to collect her from.

If you're not comfortable with organising your own public transport route your best bet is getting one of the coaches that will be organised, if we get there.

Wembley isn't a good location for a national stadium.

I would second Corcaigh's advice, club coaches drop you off as close to the stadium as possible also and would ensure your time spent stressing out is purely left to what's happening on the pitch

For All In I'm driving down to Watford, i've got a hotel there and then get the tube from Watford to Wembley and back afterwards, drive home the day after

If we make the play off final I'll probably do something similar aswell, drive down and book a hotel somewhere on the outskirts but has a tube link

Peterborough trains don’t stop at West Hampstead mate.

Watford is ok but it’s not a great town for a night out and that’s why St Albans I think is a nicer option. Home of Camra a load of fantastic pubs and restaurants new hotels and easier access from the M1. Watford people train it to St Albans for night out.

I won't be there for the night out its purely for the transport link.
For All In, im with the mrs so after the event it'll probably just be find food, and bed & if we made the play off final i'd probably end up missing all tube links back and sleeping on a bench somewhere! UTB

Following much deliberation, if we get to the final I’m hoping to book the 10.40 train Doncaster to KingsCross and return 22.00. Should give me ample time after the game to get back to Kings Cross. Cost £64 return.

I have already booked the last train to Exeter on that Saturday, it's 2030pm from Paddington which if we get there gives me big difficulties in getting back to the station if there is extra time etc. My best chance is to use the underused rail station Wembley Stadium which is about 30 metres from the ground and people never really use or know about it. I have only got off their once for an England game in Euro 96 and the train and station was very quiet.
If we get there the last train realistically I can catch from Wembley stadium rail is 7:49pm, hopefully no queues, 11 minutes to Marleybone station then to 2 stops on the bakerloo to Paddington.

That rail line has extensive stops north of Wembley going all the way north up to Birmingham, Warwick, Aylesbury. It's is worth looking at from people hoping to go somewhere quieter or less rammed to get in and out of London.
