Well he's gone and it's official

Who does keep hold of a goalscorer in this league for a third season? It's sad because you know he still had goals in him for us, but I prefer to see it as a positive that we had him follow Akpom with goals and then we managed to get good money for him. A real contrast to the parade of donkeys we endured for years until Chuba and Lath got themselves going.

Really disappointed in him leaving us half way through the season.

It was tough to take with Rogers last season but that was at least a move to the PL and back to his home town. This is a joke of a move. He has ditched us half way through the season for a pay-day in a mickey mouse league that is no better than the Championship. If he really thought he was worthy of a PL move he should have dug in for the rest of the season, helped us out and proven a point to all those PL clubs.

For me this move had undone all the good feeling that he built up with his goals and hard work. Hope the move turns to **** for him.

It seems as though the club were quite happy to let him go and pocket the profits ?

And that's also really disappointing. Why do we keep losing our top players in the Jan transfer window when other clubs at the top of the division seem to be able to fight off the interest.

I get that it's "part of the model" and all that but it's just so disruptive mid season. Surely we could have waited to cash in in the summer especially when there doesn't really seem to have been a masterplan in place to replace him

its the new recruitment model for the majority of clubs, including those in the prem outside the top 6 or 8, and is the basis of clubs like Brighton's relative success.
Sell a high profile player for a huge profit, dont replace with like for like, replace with 3 or 4 emerging prospects, one f which you can sell for a huge profit in 18 months time, one of whihc you can loan out, and 2 which actually improve the team/squad.

its what we did with the Rodgers money, and I am sure we will do the same with the ELL money.

I do not understand our agreement to sell halfway through a season. Has any other team sold their best players and gambled the season, I don’t think so. It smacks of a lack of belief to me, that or arrogance.

Personally, I think there was an acceptance that the squad was not good enough and a gamble has taken place. A gamble that will backfire. I hope I am wrong, but I do not see us finishing top 6 now. Ironically I wouldn’t fear anyone but ourselves were we to scrape in.

Think they were partly fed up with his agents behaviour, partly not wanting to block a life changing move, partly looking at it as good for summer investment. Although there’s a big possibility that Hackney goes for about 20 and rav for about 15m we still have 20m from lath minus a couple of mill loan costs. So we might have a 50m budget to sign replacements for lath, Hackney, Howson, Barlaser, Clarke, Dijksteel, Doak, Giles, Barlaser and maybe another couple. So 10 players, will give us an average of ~5m per player. It’ll be a big overhaul and if we are as successful as the last 3 or 4 windows we will move forward again. I think Hackney and lath are going to be hard to replace though.

Do you think the club will sell Hackney?
