Well done max - f1 world champion

Hamilton is a class act as a person and driver. It's a shame many don't see that. He reacted to the circumstances a lot better than Verstappen would have.

As I said earlier on this thread. I'm not overly bothered who wins. My favourite team is McLaren, so not too bothered by Red Bull or Mercedes. However, with an objective view, the decision making yesterday was shocking. The Race Director initially said no cars could overtake the Safety Car - this was immediately challenged by Horner screaming at him. Red Bull actually had a point that it's against protocol not to allow cars to unlap themselves. What should have happened is all cars unlap leaving three cars between Hamilton and Verstappen. That is the protocol.

Why follow protocol and precedent in allowing cars to unlap, then go against it in falling to allow all cars to unlap? It's poor decision making and created a false position. Red Bull gambled with their final pitstop leaving Verstappen with a lot of work to do if the race started. As it happened, the win was handed to him and Hamilton had no chance.

Sounds a bit like snobbery that mate. Aren't new fans allowed to enjoy F1 or is it just for the die hards?

Set's next season up nicely now anyway... enjoy the ride.
It depends doesn't it: Must of the disagreements I see on twitter are about stupid and uneducated comments from people "supporting" Max. You only have to look at Zorro on here. The hypocrisy and the ridiculousness of his comments didn't used to exist around F1. It seems a new thing and it's so unpleasant.
I have found a new respect for Hamilton yesterday - he was very humble in defeat.

Agreed. Especially as it wasn't just a defeat but a proper screw job. He would have every right to be angry the way that went down. Losing on the track is one thing. That contrived farce must have been so hard to take.

It wasn't just Lewis who lost out too. That's the other issue. this fake racing benefitted Max but it also screwed over Sainz and Stroll. (and ricciardo?)

Basically the lapped cars behind Max who had their shot at the top ten taken away from them by watching the cars in front of them be allowed past but not them.

Or: if all lapped cars were allowed past, Sainz could have got second in that race. Right behind the top two and on much fresher tyres than Lewis he could have easily benefitted for the fight. It was a huge disgrace for the sport, regardless of what it did for the title

Twitter innit - full of nobbers!!

It was a really strange decision. I wasn't a Hamilton fan at all until I saw him yesterday take it so well. It might just be the turning point for him though - he could really win a lot of new fans going forward. does that matter to him? Probably not but I suppose it's a small positive.

I doubt Hamilton worries too much about how people perceive him. As a person none of us can control other peoples thoughts, so don't waste time worrying about it. That's how he'll take it.

People's dislike for Hamilton is actually quite illogical unless you actually know him and have something to base the dislike on. It's the same type of thing Ronaldo has too. People hate them based on perception.

F1 has come out of this looking very very bad.

Yesterday they had a great opportunity to attract new fans as a lot of first timers were tuning in. Most (if not all) will now look at F1 as a complete and utter joke of a sport - and who's to argue with them?

They've shot themselves in the foot big style.

Yesterday's actions by those at the top were a disgrace.

Fair play to Lewis though, so gracious in defeat and deserves the upmost respect. He's a top professional and another reason why he's regarded as the GOAT.

GOAT 😁 😁 😁 😁

It’s all a joke, I can’t get on board with comments like people would’ve been happy to see it finish under a safety car. People would have been happy if they could have a straight answer to the question what are the rules about lapped cars when the race is under safety car conditions and none of this it’s at the discretion of the race director.

Like I said yesterday it just makes F1 look amateurish and going by the rule of it’s my ball my rules like at primary school.

GOAT with the fastest car.
He was laid bare yesterday.
Fastest car yes. So what - he drives it the fastest. Every world champion in history has the fastest car. TBH you can play this game but his record speaks for itself.

Well said.

This is the thing isn't it' This isn't an Anti Max anti Redbull thing. They did nothing wrong yesterday It was just the race directors decision to contrived the result and screw over 4 drivers in order to do it that is the problem. it was terrible. And If I liked Max I'd be upset right now, knowing your first ever championship is forever tainted

Laid bare by a crash and then being stitched up by the Race Director? Yeah right. Under normal conditions, Verstappen was set to finish miles behind.

But it SHOULD have finished under the safety car? Or had a one lap shout out but with all lapped cars still in place. The shocking decision and the speed with which it was taken leaves a bad taste and shows this isn't a level playing field.

Ridiculously they could easily have "created" an existing finish in a fairer way by throwing a red flag. Think about it: Latifis car was sideways across the track, on the exit of a 160mph corner, and ON FIRE! There was plenty enough reason to stop the session and have a 5 lap shoot out with no tyre handicaps

Exactly. It's hardly unheard of. F1 races have finished behind the Safety Car on something like 8 occasions in the past. All because of crashes or mechanical failures towards the end of the race. Pretty much what happened yesterday.

I dunno. I've just come back to watching F1 over the last couple of weeks after a break of a few years and the last to grand prix have been terrific. They have been exciting and controversial and it makes me want to watch more of it.

If there had been no safety car yesterday it would have been a boring finish and a boring race but it wasn't and I thought it was great. Everyone is still talking about it - even my 80 year old mother tuned in and enjoyed it.

I think everyone is emotional and overreacting somewhat - it's happened now - we'll probably all tune in next season along with lots of new fans looking forward to the Hamilton Verstappen rivalry and to see how it all plays out.

Lets deduct 10 points from Man City, I know its completely against the rules but no one wants to see a boring finish where one team runs away with it

It would certainly make it interesting for new fans :ROFLMAO:

Also it wouldn't bother me in the slightest - Man City have been playing the system for years anyway.
