Well Done Ben

"The mayor was joined by representatives from Volvo and local firm Hall Construction to welcome a new £1m, 95-tonne excavator – one of only three in the country and the first in the north"
So he sourced from a North East company rather than further afield and you're complaining?
What would your reaction be if he brought one in from, let's say Kent, for example when there was one on his doorstep?
I can read thanks.
Are you telling me there isn't a Civil Engineering company in the whole of the TVCA area capable of muck shifting?

No one said the WHOLE treasury was moving, Darlington is just going to be a Northern Campus
Let's hope it leads to decent new jobs and not just moving jobs from London, not that that is a bad thing. Just hope that I get to buy my property before prices skyrocket.

Seems plenty are in denial about the reasons for more holes in the “red wall”. All because voters are thickos apparently.

Good Guardian article about Ben Houchen written by Will Hutton just gone online. I would say it was mildly positive - that does not happen much as Hutton and the Guardian are the liberal left and BH has a Conservative badge. Hutton says he is the new Michael Heseltine i.e willing to do what is necessary in the circumstances to meet a goal. In Houchen's case take a private asset Teesside Airport into public control. The article says 750 Treasury jobs are coming to Darlington if anyone was unsure of the number. They alos say he is working with local universities and colleges and industry to establish Teesside as the UK centre for hydrogen production. I didn't realise how young he is, only 34. He didn't go to Oxbridge or a red brick university, but did law at Northumbria University.

There are 6 H2 and Carbon Capture Schemes all with funding to progress to Final Investment Decision and the Govt will decide on 2.
Given the nature of how the politics stand (and lets be honest thats what matters most to HM Gov) we sit pretty well because the Tories will be desperate to cement the gains they've made on the 'red wall' locally and build on them. That and the fact the Teesside Scheme is one of the cheaper options.

Oh and btw people have long memories.....

What did Blair's govt do for Teesside in terms of investment?
Blunkett got £millions for Sheffield
Prescott got £million for Humberside.
And we had Blair and Milburn right on our doorstep and get nothing.

If we're not careful this Tory regeneration in their fortunes in the area will keep going on and on.

It baffles me why people miss that Labour government.

I put a cross for Ben and a question mark on the other candidate :whistle: as I did not have a clue who they were or had even heard of them.
But doesn't that just prove how badly we're let down by the media?

Surely anyone with a vague interest in voting should be able to find plenty about the different visions being put forward when there are only two candidates.

So the situation was the same/ better before Houchen with one flight a day to Amsterdam or Aberdeen from the DTVA ghost town? Or with the STDC site a rotting slagheap with no future path or investment?
Jobs have to be located in one place or another, so your last point is academic.
If the only way to secure investment is to vote Tory then that isn't democracy, it's blackmail...

Is it actually legal this money for votes thing?

In no other walk of life would this type of leverage be allowed.

This government doesn’t care about legality or honesty.

Lied about Brexit
Broke electoral law
Broke data protection law stealing personal data
Illegally prorogued Parliament
PPE contracts for mates
Tax breaks for his donors and rich pals
Dodgy payments
Constant lying in Parliament

Literally he could do anything and people would thank Johnson and say his government doing a great job! It’s quite the trick.

And he lied to the Queen.

Should be slung in the dungeon.

I would like to see more being made of this money for votes thing, it’s so blatant that even the farmer went round Hartlepool promising it, it just cannot be right, it’s even worse than the wallpaper.
