Wearing masks

I went for a test this morning having run a temperature for the past 2 days and now I'm feeling a bit of tightness across the chest.
I'm self-isolating awaiting the results of course, but if I do have it then it just goes to prove that no matter how careful you are personally, you are still very reliant on others being as diligent.

Be well dood

Daughter has had a persistent cough for 4 days and a slight temperature rise on Friday, she booked a test Friday night and we took her yesterday morning 11:00 - she got the result an hour ago and it shows negative.

I've just had a neighbor come over with her grandaughter who is up from Southampton, they wanted to come in and I've told them no chance. I know the neighbor is likely OK as they are elderly and hardly see anyone or go out as the old guy is poorly anyway and has the Mcmillan nurses over every day, but her granddaughter is a complete unknown so regardless of their feelings it ain't happening.

Get well soon Dooderoni and STF daughter.

My test was negative (4 days after first symptoms) so entirely possible its a false negative.

It is possible yes. Could also just be a cold or a chest infection or the flu.
Tests are a mess.

Hope you get through this soon. You're clearly a model of diligence but that is only part of being 100% safe.

I'm still cabined up on me tod in the bedroom regardless of what I might or might not have.
I've got a little shoulder bag with antiseptic wipes and hand sanitiser in it and that goes with me whenever I go to the bathroom or to the kitchen and everything gets wiped down 😊
What I will say is that the testing centre was really well organised and efficient and that the actual mechanics of taking a sample are not very pleasant, the throat swabbing being particularly retch inducing. It looks so easy on the video link you get when you book it.

Hope it all works out for you.

You don’t know if these people have medical conditions which prevent them wearing a mask, under the “rules”.
There are virtually no medical conditions that prevent a person from wearing a mask. About the only thing that would, would be a severe inflammatory skin condition.

Critical care and pulmonary disease specialist Dr Mike Hansen explains this in the clip below.

Wasn't downplaying your illness. Just saying the symptoms at this time of year with temperature change and other factors could be a heavy cold, flu or chest infection for example.

Why haven't they been able to invent a saliva test yet with droplets been one of the main causes of the spread of infection?

I know you weren't Randy, sorry if it came across like that. It was more that I was making a point that I'm still being uber-careful.

My daughter just showed me a post on her facebook page. One of her friends had posted a 'great' photo of her mother and gran at the supermarket. Her gran wore a mask and the mother didn't. When asked why she wasn't wearing one, her reply, 'I don't want to'!!!!

Pointless in that as soon as you bring in schools, college, work, pubs, opening hours, area boundaries, work etc then the virus can’t be controlled. We took all precautions and followed guidelines yet still caught it.

Give people the choice. Follow the guidelines, do your best if you want - but we know a certain percentage won’t follow the rules, and even those that do can still catch it.

Maybe describing the rules as a mess would be better, rather than pointless.

Boundaries and rules will never be perfect, it's impossible, but it's not a reason to deny it works, or works better than doing absolutely nothing or shutting everything down (and I mean everything).

Forget that it's our government making the rules, describing them or enforcing them, but think how and why things are or aren't being done the way they are.

It's all one big equation for R, one big equation for the economy and one big equation for how many dead people we end up with, and balancing that out, with the figures effecting those equations changing by the minute, literally.

It's more about they allow bits and pieces to keep the economy and essential services and jobs going, and trying to balance that out with things that don't keep people in work or keep the economy ticking over. You can't just blanket open everything up, or blanket shut everything down, as doing either of those ends in hundreds of thousands of extra dead people. There must be a balance, which is being calculated, although they do a $hit job of explaining it to the public, or even following their own advice.

What can't happen though, is leaving the public to do what they want, as this assumes they can figure out R (or care about it), have them in control of the economy and have them running the hospitals. This also means having the public in control of the risk of others, which of course cannot happen, as 95% of people have never even seen a risk assessment, never mind written one.

The calculations will expect a small number to be selfish and not follow the rules, but if that number increases, then they will simply just apply other measures elsewhere so the choke hold tightens. If people take the ****, they will have their privileges taken away.

seeing it all over the place people completely refusing because essentially they don’t like being told what to do. Can be as careful as possible 24 hours a day for some selfish idiot to pass it to you.

It’s then the same people twisting that we’re back in lockdown. Wonder what’s caused that....

So what do people need to produce if they don’t wear one for health reasons?? There must be something official or the ruling is totally unenforceable

Its people who don't want to wear them , they put them under the nose, no one can tell them to wear a mask, they know exactly what they are doing, prats

So true!

Obeying the rules? The rules are a joke. You think COVID doesn’t threaten you because you’re eating a sandwich? The “rules” aren’t fit for purpose. To sit there judging others for not wearing a mask whilst not wearing a mask yourself is laughable.

Those people "not wearing them for health reasons" wouldn't have a mask to leave in the table when they go to the loo would they?? Masks don't stop you breathing but they do stop you eating or drinking. It's common practice to allow the mask to be removed while eating. It's higher risk, but people have to eat! You're supposed to put it back on when you leave your table (and it's supposed to cover nose and mouth). OP spot on for me.

I certainly feel for people who have conditions that prevent them for wearing. I noticed one young lady who was surrounded by a group of really threatening people when she wasn't wear one in my local Waitrose. She was in tears when she showed them some sort of card or letter which said she was exempt.
