We still need 6 new players to come in!

Mart, I get that. But Newy’s take was did well when it came to conceding goals! Could do with 2 - 3 defenders coming in- but the squad players are a bit away in ability to our first choice personnel

I think Coulson would have gone already had Bola been fit. Peltier can probably do a job there in an emergency but expect Coulson to leave when we sign a LB.

The only 'good' thing is that we are not alone in our weak recruiting.
Hardly anyone seems to be buying due to the impacts of Covid.
Does this mean that those lucky enough to enjoy the benefit of parachute payments will enjoy an even higher degree of purchase power this year?

Fulham and others can just watch us as we haggle for our lives on potential transfers then simply top trump us with a few quid.

For me, yes we are a little short in numbers particularly if Fry is out, but also persisting in McNair in a back 4 because we have no other CBs. We need 4 specialist CBs, and if we only have 2 fit and one is McNair then we should play 3 at the back anyway and move Dijksteel to RCB. Last year proved that anything else doesn't work.

I also wouldn't play Dijksteel at RWB in a 5 he is Fleming-like in the final third

If we get this back 4 out regularly or this back 5 we will do OK:

4 : Dijksteel-Hall-Fry-Bola
5 - Spence-Dijksteel-Hall-Fry-Bola

If we look at the reserves its poor:
4 Peltier-Wood-McNair-Coulson
5 Spence-Pelier-Wood-McNair-Coulson

I think we need a specialist RWB, another CB, and a LB who can also play LWB

That's before we look at 2 wingers and 2 CFs, which are the hardest to get. Oh and a ressie GK. shart that's 8 more players, were knackered.

Absolutely. We've been looking for strikers and wingers all closed season (2 or more needed) yet signed two midfielders (Crooks, Payero potentially) when we don't need them.

you'd have to say there's a lot more than meets the eye in Wing's move to the Owls as this has been done with some sort of give and take so I'm expecting a move for Reach and maybe even Westwood.

I think Crooks was a cheaper replacement for Saville, it stopped us loosing Saville in 12 months for free, and it saved us 10k/wee in wages I would think.

Payero for Wing seems an improvement, but if McNair is going to play midfield is it needed? Saying that if Payero is as decent as he looks we would be silly to turn him down.

But yes, Ameobi and Ikpeazu aren't going to move us forward from Bolasie and Britt by much if at all and we haven't replaced Fletcher, NM, Kebano, Johnson at all .

Aren't Reach and Westwood out of contract, so there is no need to do a favour for Sheff Wed?

We need wingers but I wouldn't say midfielders aren't needed. Far too much burden on Tav to be our creative force and provide composure in the final third. Howson really dropped off in form too. I really would like to see malley play again though.

exactly, the more players that are good on the ball and good at running beyond opponent midfields the better we will be all over the pitch. Tav is the only player we have to consistently do that and Payero on the ball and Crooks running off the ball will give us more quality, more possession and more time for our attacking players to get forward.

I think Howson just looked burned out last season -- like many of our starters. But let's not forget Howson is 33, and has a lot of miles on those legs.

Thought Howson looked the best of our midfielders at York. The only one with a bit of energy and forward passing. Hopefully it was just Warnock's kick and hope tactics that made him look poor.

I think his career is in wind down now and he is going to be unable to perform twice a week. As a sub to close games down or an occasional starter he'll do fine

Unless we have a cup run, far fewer midweek games this season . . . unless covid postpones games.

When warnock says the squad is thin...i think he means ageing, overpayed journeymen who are still inconsistent, play below standard, dont create, dont score and still get picked and given another chance to rinse and repeat the afforementioned....whereas a young lad doing surprisingly good or arpund the same has to go on loan or become a man or has to learn the game despite offering more effort, drive, pace, enthusiam creativity, work ethic etc than the older guys. Im all for giving warnock this year to see if he can get us up but long term this club needs a managee who nutures and trusts the youth and doesnt find faults in them to find a reason not to play them....maybe lampard if he was interested.
