We look a shadow of the side this time last year

It’s actually soul destroying how far we have fallen in such a short space of time. This time last year we were secured in the play offs and hunting down shed u for second automatic spot.

Playing on the front foot and scoring for fun home and away.

The town was buzzing the stadium was packed everyone was happy it was a joy to watch and people couldn’t wait for the next game.

We lost possibly the 4 best players in the league in summer; 3 of them weren’t ours and went on to be sod for a fortune we couldn’t afford. The other was ours but it was his first really good season, exceptional in fact, and left for a big fee too and for wages we couldn’t afford. It’s not hard to understand why we aren’t playing like last year.

It’s going to take time to build a squad capable of promotion.

First and foremost we need to stop conceding 2-3 stupid fkin goals every game - we are killing our selves especially as we currently are misfiring up front due to having no cf and a bunch of new, but promising, players.

Work in progress.

That was before we sold a top notch champo striker and the decent loan players left. This season's mediocrity was almost guaranteed when that happened. Underlined by selling another upcoming player a few weeks ago and bringing nobody in.
If we'd kept the loan players (except Muniz) we'd have a much stronger squad

Bonkers people are shocked and surprised we ain’t as good as last season, we lost our best players and didn’t replace them

Who the hell would have seen this coming eh

We’re a totally different team unfortunately. Losing Akpom has a been massive. We’re still trying to play the same style, but lack the quality to make it work.

Not having a centre forward is starting to really impact things too.

It’s madness couple that with zero pace and we are just 2D.

How many goals would Chuba have scored in our current team?

He wouldnt be playing as a no.10 for a start

When we started the season with latte and Coburn as our only no 9s it was only going to end one way. Not to get a striker in the window was an astonishingly bad decision again. I think carrick has done remarkablely well this season with a poor squad. I have zero faith in the club getting sufficient quality in to mount a promotion charge this summer and wouldn't blame carrick if he moved elsewhere.

Steffen, Giles, Ramsey, Akpom and Archer were key players for us last season. They're sorely missed right now.

I rate Dieng as being as good as Steffen, or possibly even better, but the reality is we haven't had him in goal for a good period of time now, and we currently have a keeper in goal who I'm afraid to say isn't up to standard. Steffen was able to play a full season for us. We had stability there, even if he did divide opinions.

I also feel we had stability in midfield last season, as most games we had Hackney and Howson in midfield. They complimented each other so well, but this season we've had so many different midfield combinations. We've had so many different combinations across the pitch.

I'm still hopeful that over time the model will prove to be successful for us, but I do also worry that in reality, bringing in high-quality loans might actually be the best strategy for a club like us in trying to get promoted. It's a strategy we know the club won't be entertaining in the near future though, and that's that.

The model is not spending anywhere near enough to get promotion

That's because we are a shadow of last year's team.

Scored 12 goals Conceded 5...... goals, goals, goals... our team last year was full of goals..

Lose your top goal scorer, and lose Archer & Ramsay and then replace them with average players, then you end up where we are now.. mediocre

That side we had last season played the football I’ve seen us play in the last 20 years if not more.

I said at the time, enjoy it because we won’t see it again for a while. It doesn’t mean we have to wet our pants now though. We still played good football in the second half and with a bit of luck could easily have scored 3 or 4.
