We are not a well run club

regularly I see this, we are a “ well ran” club we are “ stable” finishing in the championship every season bar the odd promotion push Is not stability is mediocrity we have had 1 top flight season in 15 years in heaps of debt, and the man has made continuous mistake after mistake when will fans take the rose tinted glasses off and realise he’s taking the club backwards?

When will fans just look at the progress we’re actually making?

2019/20 17th

2021/22 7th
2022/23 4th

We’ve got some right whoppers spouting all sorts of utter tripe! It’s been since the geordies got all that money!

No wins in 12.. four games into the season (not including the win) I’ve heard folks slagging off players that we haven’t signed and how bad they’ll be when we get promoted?!?!?

I think we need some sort of Doyle amnesty before we go full on pony puncher.. or should I say seagull shagger?

Oh.. oh dear.. I can see where this is going.

I wouldn't class us as midtable as we do jump from one extreme to the other. We either winning every week top of the table or in a relagation dogfight have no clue where next points coming from.

I
What would the situation be if we were well run? Maybe your expectations aren't particularly realistic?
think the expectation should be to improve on last season, 1 top flight season in 15 is poor. We are charged extortionate ticket prices and carrick said the aim and expectation is too go for automatic promotion, we are miles away and have lost our best players and replaced them with players who bar silvera look bang average. It’s the same start every season we then pick up poorly and drop off.

We were when we beat Utd..
We were when we reached the playoffs
Now.. four games in and with players still to bring in. Doomed!!
1 top flight season in 15 is poor, we have almost been relegated too league one in that time, we are in debt, we have the highest ticket prices in the league in the country’s most deprived region. Every single managerial appointment bar karanka and hopefully bar carrick has been poor. We have lost our best players and are replacing them with players who just simply don’t look good enough. We start every season in the same vein. The season doesn’t start in mid October. It starts from week one. 1 good half a season spell doesn’t change the fact 12 of the last 15 years or so has been awful

Okay. I disagree. That's a nice thing to hope for but it's not something to expect.

We finished 4th last season. All of the teams that finished above us were promoted. We scored more goals than we've scored in a season since 1967. To improve on it means promotion. The Championship just isn't like that where any team can go into it expecting that.

Sorry mate that majority of us are not jumping for joy after losing our best players replacing them with players who are simply not on the same level, and conceding 7 goals in 2 away games having 1 point coming against a relegation threatened awful side. Last half of last season was the only real positive in the last 6 seasons.

right, but we have went backwards to the point we look unrecognisable. The same happened last season finished poorly ended poorly we have lost our 5 best players and replaced them with players who are not on the same level steffan is better than dieng who hasn’t impressed so far. Engels while early days you can just see he is no giles silvera for me looks the only bright spark. We look in a rut of starting the season poorly sacking the gaffer going on a run then kicking on and then ultimately finish poorly

We are a championship club.. saying we’re not in the premier league is a redundant point.

Almost relegated? We finished 17th in 2020 and have made consistent progress since.

All clubs are in debt. Ticket prices pay for players.. also supply and demand.

Every single management appointment.. apart from two. You are saying this guff and even YOU know it’s not true!

We’ve sold our best player and we’re in the process of replicating his contribution.. We don’t have all our new players in yet..

The season doesn’t start in October.. nor does it get written off in August!!

I’m not jumping for joy.. just being realistic and un-geordie like.

We might not have replaced any of our best players yet? Imagine that!

Can we at least wait for the window to close before slagging off our new signings?

Can we wait 12 games before taking about how many games we’ve won in 12 games!!

We are a Football Club.
We should look to improve every season.
We have regressed in every footballing way. Squad quality, first team quality, performances, results, standing in the table.

This should be a very big week and of course recruitment this week could still address the gaping shortfall in quality we have.
But we are in big trouble if the week falls flat.

We’re not a “ championship club” we have spent 60 percent of our history in the top division. Our ground is within the 20 biggest in the league and our all time support is within the 20 best clubs in the country over the course of English football, your average championship club doesn’t get the support we get only a few like us do. Stop sitting on the small plucky club fence because it’s just not true. It’s the 2nd longest time spent out the top flight in the clubs history. 1 season in 15, we had two good seasons under karanka the rest of the mangerial appointments have so far been awful. Our season in the premier league was awful relegated with a whimper. In 2020 if it wasn’t for warnock saving the day we would have been dead and buried and condemned to league one football. We were 20th/24th the majority of the season

Exactly this I’m not writing the season off but it’s going to very difficult to get the bodies in we need in a week. Majority of the league have there buisness and side effectively finished. It’s unprofessionalism costing us two months of the season every year

Watch the spin from the club over the next couple of months its a transition season long term plan etc positive transition in the championship is extremely difficult when you sell your top players season after season

I have always defended the club when it comes to fans expectations. Being in the PL for a bit should be cherished, being in the second tier should not be seen as failure. But there is no doubt that 1 season in (what will be, if we don’t go up) 16 seasons in the top flight would suggest a decline for the club, not just since the first half of Gibson’s reign but if measured against the club’s historical norms. (Not quite as bad as 54-74 of course).

There is very little I can do about it of course, and moaning won’t help, but it is no longer the case that we are punching at or above our weight. We’re in real danger of becoming a club that is significantly underachieving, and that is a scenario that Gibson has never really overseen before.

I accept that fans should compare performance to historical norms.

That said, the season is far from over after only 4 games.

We are way down on owner wealth and playing assests now though. Historical position is irrelevant look at Bournemouth for example we arent in the same league as them anymore
