Watching British democracy disappear in front of our eyes

Despite having a perfectly good electronic voting system for MP’s that allows in these COVID restrictive times ill and shielding MP’s the chance to still represent the views of their constituents , Jacob Reece Mogg today disenfranchised large numbers of the electorate by insisting only MP’s who can currently turn up to the House of Commons can vote on government business. Instead of swift efficient and accurate electronic voting systems MP’s will now stand in a long 2 metre socially distance conga wasting valuable time. Today MP’s missed scheduled committee meetings because they were stuck whining in Mogg’s conga. Absolutely crazy

Speaker caved in to Mogg and the deputy speaker is imposing time limits on opposition MPs speaking although the house is sparsely populated.
This will be a summer of protest and riots.

Its not going to stop the government winning votes , but the opposition probably have more chance of winning a vote the less people are there. Unless they are still doing the pairing system.
But lets face it with a 80+ majority there's no real opposition anyway

The UK Parliament briefly visited the 21st century, where MP's who were ill or vulnerable could vote remotely. Mogg has now dragged it back to the 18th century.

These MPs cannot really be trusted to work from home. Has everyone forgotten the Great Expenses Fiddle?
Having looked at the local news tonight it appears that some of our local representatives regard Coronavirus as a way to have a 7 to 8 months holiday, and not just with furlough cash but on full salary.

Don't think there will be any problem with speaker Sir Limply Doyle being elevated to the House of Lords

A part of me wants it to be. I want people to take to the streets and scare the sh1te out of the UK's entitled, seemingly untouchable ruling classes. But as an auld b***r who's seen similar times before, few people win in a riot. People get hurt (or worse) and lives damaged - and it's rarely the haves. Mind, it was the poll tax riots that saw off Thatcher, so you never know.

But surely to Christ something has to give? I can't remember such normalisation of utterly shameless lying from the very top. When you get to this state, it's like encouraging widespread lawlessness.

The government was elected less than 6 months ago with a whopping majority. A lot of people would need to admit they got it wrong and eat humble pie for the ruling party to face real trouble - democratically they are rock solid and would see off any confidence vote comfortably. I can’t see those who voted Tory turning against the government this soon.

What is the purpose of this? The government have a big majority so should be able to win any votes comfortably either remotely or in person. If it's just to get MPs back in to the commons to support Boris at PMQs then surely there will have to be social distancing in the chamber in any event, so what good would that be?

Is it just Mogg being his ghoulish self?

With Labour MPs having helped to elect a Conservative MP as Speaker in 2009 who wasn't really a Conservative any longer, it does seem that the Tories have returned the favour.
