Warnock agrees 1 year deal

felt quite a few of fans had it in for Pulis before he started
Here we go again pullis was a dinosaur drummed out of every club he’s been in as he kills football he said all the enjoyment from the game.

Warnock is a well respected football manager that that has a phenomenal track record of getting teams promoted from this division.

Let’s not even compare the two.

Zorro

Neil Warnock will play in general physical players using a pragmatic approach to the game (hence we never seem to beat his sides). I am personally OK with this if it get results. Pulis did manage to get Stoke promoted and to a FA Cup Final and a season in Europe. Our last 4 games against Warnock sides were 1-0 defeats. If it was down to these two I would pick Warnock, but to me they are more similar than dissimilar and are from the same era, opposed to say a 40 something foreign coach.

No Warnock philosophy is to win games admittedly 1-0 if poss but pullis philosophy is to not get beat and if you win it’s a bonus.

Warnock is a promotion specialist
Pullis was a relegation avoider

The only similarity is their age.

Look at that the no of chances we created and the shots in target in warnocks games wince he arrived. He believes in being direct getting in the box and shooting.

Not announced on club site, so will wait till then. I expect the story on Gazette site is largely correct, but it might also be Vickers being a bit too eager to get a story out without quotes or official statement...

This is true - Warnock got 8 teams promoted and Pulis was never relegated from the Prem, both outstanding managers for different situations

Well I posted this on the thread with the first Gazette link, but as everyone's here now...

Working hypothesis: the same people who accuse Steve Gibson of being lazy when he appoints someone young and/or local and/or already employed will praise this one to the heavens because they've seen him on the telly before he arrived. When in fact he has, depressingly, done the job he was brought in for, and retaining him now is the true laziness.

I read it on the other thread and thought I must be tired as I couldn’t get the gist of your point. I am glad you have put it on here.

Quite pleased with this (although would like to see it made official from the club).
Think it means next season will be an interesting one and while I don’t expect miracles, I don’t expect us to be in a relegation battle either. Would be chuffed with a sniff of the play offs going into the last few games, but would also settle for mid table and a decent rebuild, steadying of the ship and laying down foundations for the season after.

Or it’s a sensible move using the services of an old experienced head to rebuild a poor team and steady the ship.

In my opinion I don't see how people can be disappointed with this if it turns out to be true.

It is not likely to be a long term appointment but given the current uncertainty around football in general, the likely high turnover of players, and the short period of time before next season starts I think Warnock is a great appointment. He has been here a little while, got a number of wins to keep us safe, has had at least a little time to get to know the players, and has a very good track record in this division.

If true, I'm quite surprised he's taken it on. I wouldn't be expecting too much in terms of league position this coming season and I hope the fans don't want him out if we're not top at Christmas......

Hopefully he can stabilise us and move us up the table. We should have a plan in place for the appointment after Warnock.

Tbh i think if he wasnt going to be here it would have been quickly decided. Longer it took more likely. One year sounds a lot to do with this mob.

Great news. Wish it was longer than a year though.

I wouldn't be too worried about that (if 1 year is true, gazette have been wrong plenty of times). If it goes well, he builds a foundation and it looks like we're set for a promotion push the following season I'm sure he'll stay on to finish the job. I just assume 1 year will mean everyone can assess where we are at the end of the season and take it from there.

It's not like he's going to be poached by a bigger club or anything.

Ye pulis philosophy was to set out for a draw 🙄. That’s just nonsense

I can agree he was a dinosaur and I wish we never employed him. Horrible to watch

Don’t be expecting pretty football. There is definitely more similarities to pulis than isn’t.

Interesting isn’t it.
I’m a bit like you - two old style managers playing ’pragmatic’ football. Definitely more similarities than not.
Both have been successful with circumstances dictating Pulis good at avoiding the drop whilst Warnock being good at getting teams promoted.
Pulis had us difficult to beat and, have to expect Warnock will start from that point.
The key will be what happens from midfield to attack - difficult to see an easy solution with a 1 year contract (max 2?)

This is also where I agree with Buddy’s post. It is a ‘convenient‘ appointment for Gibson to make and, in the main, keeps the fans quiet.

I’m a bit 50/50 about the appointment .......which is going in the right direction (I was 100% against the last one).
fingers crossed n all that

Hopefully fans will be realistic enough to know its probably going to be a summer and season of massive change.

A comfortable mid table with the odd flirt with the playoffs would still be a massive improvement. Just move out some dead wood and big earners.

That said you see the state of Cardiff when he took over. I would imagine it's a similier budget and starting point.

Dare to dream.... Says me already not being 'realistic' 😉
