Walk-Up Prices Confirmed

Gibson is not allowed to subsidise MFC to the tune of £12m/year even if he wanted to.

There is an owner subsidy allowed, but I think its around £5m a year.

The Hull pricing is very good, myself I think £20 for a seat at a Championship game is selling the product a bit cheap. The English Championship is quite a high standard and mainly played in modern safe stadiums, certainly at Hull.

Had a conversation with a Preston ST holder at work last week. Their early bird tickets were ridiculously cheap and was told they sold about 12k? (could be wrong). But their prices - for a mid table Championship club are - Screenshot_20220721-134415.png

Parent company Gibson O’Neill guarantee the losses the club makes every single season outside the PL.
This has been way higher than £1m per month.
He hasn’t put that money in, he has

Gibson O’Neill guarantee the club losses every year. Gibson does not put that money in, he is liable for it.
It is considerably more than £12m per season on many seasons and we lose money every season outside the PL or PP’s.
There is no cap on how much he can guarantee this way, so long as his Parent Company can cover it.

The cap is re FFP.
The club in the Championship can only lose £39m across 3 years IF the owner injects £24m in equity, or provides Undertakings (guarantees) intended to be eventually converted if required into equity.
I am presuming that GO’N’s undertakings are constructed this way as there has been no equity injected since 2016.
The allowances for FFP are considerable meaning a big actual loss can still be brought within FFP guidelines if undertakings are constructed appropriately.

The way to stop needing to increase the undertakings is to stay in the PL.
It’s is why getting up is key.
And why given the lower wage bill, increased revenue and paltry current amortisation charge, I still expect Gibson to invest in the quality to go up.
He’s leaving it very late.

I think this thread proves it isn't about fleecing the fans, but about trying to be competitive?
I don't think anyone necessarily thinks it's about profiteering; it's just whether we have the balance right, particularly in the North East, for getting people to matches.

From a personal point of view (living in the south), when I had the Pride Card I went out of my way to use it a fair few times per season. I'd plan the weekend round the match and then slot everything else in around it. Only way I go to a home match now is if I have something planned on Teesside and getting to the match works around the weekend's plans.

Maybe I'm just getting older and the costs of other things like the train plays a part, but I still enjoy going to away matches as long as it's £30 or less (that's my cut off).

I don't disagree with that, I live down south and would only be able to justify a season ticket if money was no object. I assume we aren't the target market though? I go to home games once/twice a season, I don't think I would go more often if the price was a fiver less. I manage away tickets through elderly relatives who have season tickets, but no desire to go away!

Travelling to games in the North or London is more expensive than the ticket for me. If I make it to 65, Boro tickets would be only £22 and £19. Trains to the North are £60 even with senior railcard and £37 to London.

I know everyone is in different circumstances.

But every penny at MFC from home ticket sales (take off the 20% VAT) goes on players wages.

Enjoying reading this thread and all of the points made.

Ticket pricing is a difficult one. It’s something we have been talking to the club about throughout pre season and been working hard on, we put together a comprehensive document of supporter feedback, thoughts, ideas and also included research on what other clubs have done in relation to creative ticketing offers & increasing attendance. This was for the MFC exec team and it was well received, but ultimately pricing is the chairman’s decision, he puts the money in.

As already mentioned in a post above, ticket sales cover running costs of the club, like the stadium upkeep etc not transfers.

We can only keep trying to influence and we realise it’s going to be small steps. We will keep up the campaigning though.

We did have a little win (if you want to call it that) with a small reduction in prices for midweek games as a result of the document we submitted.

We will keep chipping away.

A walk up to the Boys end at AP used to cost me a weeks pocket money.
Let that sink in.
Where was I supposed to find money for sweets Mr Amer?

I could get in the Holgate for my pocket money say aged 14, but for big games I would miss some of the view through a post or someone's head - the facilities were a bit like going back to the Edwardian age outside walls with gutter drains for loos and very little for the ladies.

I always worked out a seat price to around five pints of beer.

Here you go .. yes I've got far too much time on my hands (currently between jobs)

Pick the bones out of this lot ... West, East, North, South etc is compared to the Riverside

Cardiff's is complicated Match Day, Pre-Match Day, Membership then Zones inside the stadium

I noticed a few clubs have a membership scheme which results in cheaper tickets. Couldn't find anything for Brum or QPR

Cheers Davey

There are fees (up to £35) usually with Membership schemes which complicates its further and some have hidden costs like booking fees even when you collect the tickets.

Looking at Sunderland I would say our walk ups are a touch cheaper if anything:

Our cheapest adult is £27/£30 and there's is £29
65+ ours is £19/£22 and theres is £26
Child ourest is £18/£15 or £14/£11 in family zone and there's is £12/£10
We don't have a 18-21 walk up price but they do. (£22)

I am not saying ourest is cheap particularly for adults and child.

At a quick glance most adult prices are in £25 - £30 price bracket, so while ours are expensive they aren't dissimilar. We do seem to miss out on the more creative pricing, such as 18-21 (as I mentioned earlier in this thread) and the membership scheme (discussed many times on here). Perhaps these are points which could be brought up at future fans forum, along with reciprocal pricing for away fans?
