Villa have competition for Rogers

As I said last week, we should just end conversations with Villa and tell them we’re not selling in this window.

If it was silly money they were offering then fair enough, but it’s quite clear from their bids that it won’t be and they’ve wasted time and caused uncertainty by low balling us.

The money is useless to us with 2 days to spend it, it doesn’t matter how highly you rate Scott he’s not a miracle worker.

Aston Villa are preparing a fourth bid for Morgan Rogers
@MirrorFootball
I suspect they may not only have to increase the amount they‘d initially be paying… but also perhaps they’d have to agree to amendments to the terms and conditions of some of the add-ons which currently for our benefit may not be good enough.
Hold tight Gibbo👍

He should have a signing lined up ready surely.

Should we make the playoffs, evidence of the last 15 seasons suggests we do not suddenly have a 25% chance of promotion.
The 6th place team has gone up once in that time, so the 6th place team has about a 7% chance of going up.

I'm not suggesting the final placement directly dictates the chance: both are a result of the 6th place team not being as good as those in 3rd and 4th.

I would not be prepared to gamble much, either in terms of incomings or outgoings, in an attempt to scrape the playoffs this year. That doesn't mean I'd sell cheap, or sign a good player if he became available. Either decision would be about the long term, not this season.
You’re right but if you check my maths you’ll see I’m with you. I haven’t given us a 25% conditional probability of promotion after making the playoffs. My guess of one in three of making them becomes a calculated one in twenty to go up, based on a conditional probability of 15%, which is about the average for 5th and 6th placed finishers.

The one in three is the real dodgy one as it’s a pure guess.

Maybe it's a little payback from us to them, last January the club wanted to buy Cameron Archer, or have a loan deal with an option to buy, Aston Villa knocked us back saying "Loan deal only, as they were not sure about his Aston villa future"

This isn't a linear thing, dominoes, prior planning, wheels in motion etc

It’s noticeable in my opinion how there is much less in the media about the recent bidding, no more comments that Rogers is keen on the move, not much speculation etc. I would think Gibson has already put a shot across the Villa bows about the correct and incorrect way to do transfer business. Villa have been disappointing in my opinion in the way they have tried to unsettle the player, leaked the details of bids and treated it like it was a done deal.

I'd be amazed if bids were lodged verbally, and I don't think we can't stop them emailing us (or faxing us) can we? Sure we can ignore them, but we can actually stop them sending bids.

I said earlier in the window it's Boro's fault if they accept a low bid, but it's not boro's fault if they receive a low bid.

I mean it has been ridiculous. "Rogers wants the move", "Villa are preparing another bid". Do they decide to bid again and get straight onto the Daily Mirror first? Could be coming from Rogers agent of course rather than Villa but either way I could understand it if Boro were irritated by it.

True. The way Villa fans are going on, we should give them Rogers as they helped us out with Archer, Ramsey and Azaz. All those deals favoured Villa as much as they favoured us. We don't owe them anything.

Ref Archer and Ramsey - we possibly doubled the value of those players for Villa, they owe us favours.

Ramsey was struggling a bit on loan @ Norwich and was a different player at the Boro.

Agreed; if Villa had given us a cut of their fees in return for showcasing their talents, I might feel we owed them a favour now.

exactly, it is what it is, we are the pauper but football is cyclical and hopefully before too long, we will be sending our promising players to a champo club then selling them for 20m the next summer
Love your optimism there - I’m minded to think the cycles are getting longer and longer
