Villa have competition for Rogers

A bit harsh on the Crewe model? It started when they were on a 20 year run in the 4th tier, and ended with 8 seasons in the second tier, their only seasons at that level since the 19th century. We start from a better position of course, but the Crewe model worked wonders for them.
I loved how Crewe managed to produce some world class talent under Dario on a shoe string but the reality is that deprive all these great players passing through the club Crewe themselves never seemed to progress.

Jedi - Crewe did get to the Championship and its a small place without a particular football pedigree and without a sugar daddy. A bit like Darlington.

They had 8 seasons of 2nd tier football, their first time at that level for almost a century. They definitely did progress, but their celling is far lower than ours no matter what model they use.

If Rogers was to flounce and do a Pritchard then the worst thing we could do would he cave in and accept a low ball offer.

We would be showing weakness and would then never receive bids at an appropriate level for our players in future.

If it came to it then Rogers would have to train on his own for the rest of the season before deciding if he wanted to do the same again next season or issue a public apology and be reintegrated into the group in the summer.
There’s no chance Rogers would do that - he’s 21 and just trying to establish himself. He’s smart enough to know that knuckling down and playing as well as he can will be good for his career options

So where did the £15m reports come from?
Press just guessing?
£7.5m up front , rest as add ons?
It was just twitter hype.. the last one said £7.5m with £7.5m of add ons.. if there is any truth in the reposts I would say that we’re going back and forth over the upfront fee.

Part of me thinks that is all guff and it’s pretty much all done and dusted apart from us sorting out an incoming striker.

Reports have been £15m from the off in one way or another.. seems very much like Morgan is our player we have to sell each season uk stay afloat/competitive.

Why are they coming in with crap bids then?
Because that's how negotiation works?

If we did I'd guess Villa think it's just our starting negotiating position and they can barter us down significantly.

They're also, I suspect, hoping that the player will put pressure on, every time they come back.

It's a bit unusual how it's progressing, particularly with bids seemingly being leaked by villa every time. Looks like villa are playing games a bit and if I was boro I'd be minded to just tell them to Foxtrot Oscar to be honest.
