Villa have competition for Rogers

Many, many clubs work under the same or a similar model. They don’t sell their talent after 6 months with 3.5 years left on the deal. Especially with 3 days left of the window. Blackburn and Sunderland have already showed they won’t be bullied into losing players now when they hold the cards.

You have to back your asset and the manager you’ve brought in to mould the talent to improve them and get an even bigger fee.
Yes that's what I'm sayin. I want to keep Rogers not just for this season but the next after where I think our best chance of promo is. I'm just saying the first bit of the model where we buy cheap emerging talent is great then get a look at them when we play them, all great However this Rogers deal is a blueprint for how things are going to be in reality , enforced on us IF SG really wants to make up 12m a season by sales profits. That's it. we are always going to be forced into a corner to take deals ( way earlier than fans want ) that make up 12m deficits. Nothing has been said about MR agent in the deal but you can bet your life they have been prodding him to suggest if he doesn't make a move on this , it may never happen. That's what agents do. That's the way it will work in all future offers of our developers.

Exactly this isn the Brighton or Brentford model

it’s the Crewe one

I would imagine if you are league 2 at 26yo, you are there for a reason. Think we can do better. Was diving more than garnacho in first half.

It’s less than we paid for britt 6 or so years ago.

The world has moved on it should be 20 plus minimum.

I’m amazed anyone thinks this is a good deal ( apart from villa of course).
The context really matters in everything. You cant use 1 example of a transfer to justify asking for 20 million

What has Rogers shown in level of performance and consistency to say we should demand a 20 millons fee

You have the likes to tav going to 12 million and established player. You could use that an an example and say oh anything near that the club has done extremely well.

Tav was premier league ready player, has proved so. I’m sure you were in the bad move for tav camp as well. ‘Straight back down’ ‘sitting on their bench’

Rogers is not a premier league ready player. If we get 12.5 to 15 mil for 6 months work it is extremely good business for the club

Unusual history for a footballer, studied for a degree and became a teacher, only been a professional for two years.
Edit- think he just applied to be a teacher, was actually working on a farm up until two years ago. According to what I've just heard on the BBC!

Villa selling Ramsey for under £15 million, then signing Rogers for about the same (when they could have had him for free in the summer) is just bizarre.

Great deal for us if it goes through, I really do like Rogers but making that much profit in 6 months is fantastic business. It does need to be invested in a striker this week if we want any hope of a playoff place

Uh oh, I’ve upset a few of their fans over on Twitter.

Haven’t won anything since 1996 but they reckon they’re a massive club.

Tav was in the last year of his contract and a fair bit older than Rogers. Plus transfer fees have rocketed since then.
Tav had never proved he was premier league ready before we sold him, it was a gamble by Bournemouth.
I think Rogers showed in the recent games against PL opposition despite playing for a team under the cosh he can hack it at the top level.
I've been saying since his first couple of games for the club when everyone else said he was garbage he'd go on to be a top player. Definitely still think that.
I think in several games in the last few months he's shown he can demand a big Premier League fee, as have more importantly the professional scouts of Villa and West Ham

I wasn’t using tav as example, I was showing how it could be used as an example. Each individual transfer comes in its own context. It would be daft to use either britt or tav to try and justify what fee Rogers should get

Everyone else?!

There’s been plenty advocating how good he can be. It’s just consistency he needs and he’s getting it here.

If it wasn't for the injury crisis there is no guarantee that Rodgers would even be starting every week, in fact he wasn't up until the end of Nov. He did have some markedly improved performances throughout December and Jan but still misses loads of chances and is still very wasteful.

£15m is extremely good business.

Go and read the thread after the QPR game.
I was on my own!😂
I use "everyone else" loosely, but the people not completely slagging him were in a very small minority.

How long until we start seeing Aston Villa fans tweeting about Rogers being crap and a waste of money? I’m going to say middle of March.

I really like Rogers and think he’s been great for us the last couple months but as much as I like him, I just don’t see him doing it in the PL, not yet anyways. Will be a poor move for his development I fear.
