Viktor Gyökeres

He was ok second half tonight but Paddy McNair was all over him for two and a half games and according to some on here he can’t defend to save his life….

There us zero chance we sign him whether they go up or not now. I could see him fitting right in with either auto promoted team.

He caused us a lot of problems last night, often whilst isolated and having to do it by himself. It's a measure of the respect that we had for him that Paddy took one for the team by practically garroting him on the half way line when he'd been done once in the first half. Instrumental in their goal and had the defence at 6s and 7s at times in the second half.

Gyokeres showed over the two legs that there's much more than just scoring goals, at being a striker.

McNair had the better of him in the first leg, however, last night, he caused us problems. Majority of last night he had to contend with hopeless balls lumped up to him, and he was fantastic.

He did more over then 2 legs, than Chuba & Archer did together.

Chuba had the 2 best chances over the legs, but couldn't convert. However both Archer & Chuba were pretty nonexistent, whereas Gyokeres constantly offered Coventry a way out of trouble.

He'll be playing PL football next season, without doubt.

If we cash in on Chuba and Coventry don’t go up..break the bank and bring him in…he is an absolute class act carrying a mediocre team…he bullied and out smarted us all night.
I wrote a post similar to this last year, and people said I was mad.

But this post is now a year too late, he's top half of prem level, or similar abroad, he won't play in the championship again.

I don't think he's - only - a big unit, 20 odd goals.. was a good target tonight but thought we handled him well enough over 3 games..

We may see how good he is in PL soon enough..

We didn't handle him well, as he occupies like 3 players and still keeps the ball, it allows Coventry to keep so many players behind the ball.

He's the main reason we created very little against Coventry over 3 games, as he's good enough where the team can play a really strange structure which is extremely difficult to break down.

Handling him well is being able to leave him 1 v 1 and there be no real risk, which isn't possible for 99% of champo defenders, most prem defenders will struggle 1 v 1 with him.

Gyokeres was the difference between the two sides last night. He gave Coventry a platform up top that we simply didn't have.

I assume Carrick would like to have someone with similar attributes in the squad, and not have to use Crooks as a make-do alternative.

Think he would be a good option for Sheff Utd if Coventry don't get promoted.
He is a weird player, his touch isn't great but still managed to hold onto the ball and draw in 2 or 3 of our players every time it went to him.

He's a very good player but needs to be, as their other 10 are awful.

Thought he ran into a few blind alleys last night tho, his awareness doesn't seem great.

As mentioned earlier, someone should have done his ankle early doors.

Well that's not true. He's not even Coventry's best player.
He's the best player for team, by a mile, as he allows them to play the way they do. Take him out and they have absolutely zero threat without changing the structure which would lead to giving up a lot more space and conceding a lot more goals.

They could swap any other player out and they would still be able to play the same way, and it wouldn't change a great deal.

Not entirely true.

Gyokeres is their best striker by a mile, no doubt about that. But he's not their best player. That accolade belongs to Hamer.

Take Hamer out that team and they fall to bits.

Their fans know this, and most spectators watching Coventry can see this.

Gyokeres would certainly be a big miss too, but Hamer leaves a bigger hole when missing. No question about it.

Gyokeres is the key to their game though, this is simple to see and you don't need to be a Coventry fan.

Hamer is excellent, no doubt about that, but if they swapped him out they might lose like 10% of threat, but if they took out Gyokeres their entire system is screwed, they lose like 20% attacking threat and also get screwed defensively as they have to commit more players.

Hamer gets the benefit of Gyokeres being as good as he is, every Cov player does.
