Unlikely quotes from players at signing press conferences

"No other sucker would match my ridiculous wage demands and I am really looking forward to the huge challenge of spending my weekly wage with PSG."

"I wasn't excited by Middlesbrough, but they offered good money".

Honestly gets on my t*ts when you hear players blowing smoke up the **** of fans about their club.
"Wigan Athletic are a massive club, I knew I wanted to sign for them as soon as I heard they were interested".
Total lie.

I was gonna sign for Arsenal but they pulled out last minute and Middlesbrough’s offer was still on the table so I thought **** it, might aswell I have Always wanted to try a parmo

Once I heard I was going to be on more than Bergkamp, I thought why not.

Middlesbrough seem like a good club and they've promised me they will keep me away from temptation. Also I love travelling so commuting on the train every day will be fun.

I'd never heard of Middlesbrough, but even though I'm coming for the big bucks, I can also pretend I'm coming because this player who used to be captain of England whose name is vaguely recognisable to football fans in my home country is the manager.

"When I found out Bolton wanted to sign me it was a no brainer, I didn't want the move but the missus persuaded me seen as though it isn't far from the Trafford Centre."

I think you do Bryan Robson a great disservice there as yes the money helped but there’s no way they would have come without robbo.

he is a huge name globally.

I have dreamed of playing for (small club player hasn't even heard of before today) since I was a kid

Opinions I guess. He was a known global name in football, as England captain (don't forget Man Utd were mostly sh1te until just before he left and England won nothing either), but the idea that Brazilian kids were playing football in the Sao Paolo streets pretending to be Bryan Robson rather than Pele or Zico is absolutely comical to me. Most of them would have seen him play a handful of games at absolute most, football wasn't as globalised then either.

But of course Juninho has to say he is the reason he signed because was signing for a small club he'd never heard of who offered him the biggest contract with the smallest amount of fuss. Turned out well though for both parties though and I thoroughly believe his love for us was genuine once here.

By the way, no one loves Robbo more than me, but we do have a tendency to lack objectivity when talking about some of our ex-players on this board. He was revered in England but in Brazil he would have been just a vaguely familiar name to most people, including Juninho.

Juno never hid the fact his child hood idol was zico (same as me btw) But don’t under play Bryan Robson though he was and is a huge name just as bobby charlton is/was.

If it's true about Ray Parlours reason for signing for us (his ex wife was getting half his salary so he joined us because we offered the lowest wage) I wish he'd led with that in his press conference

He stayed at his house before he signed along with Keith lamb so your story of he only met him when arrived in the uk isn’t correct.

Well re Charlton, you're talking about England's greatest ever player (driving force who won the world cup and european cup). Robbo isn't in that league. He was England captain for a good few years so he was reasonably well known because of that. He obviously would have had a bigger profile in Brazil than most other England midfielders of the era, but I really, really, really doubt Juninho used to fantasise about playing under him like you might say about Zidane or whatever.

I think you are being disrespectful as robbo was an incredible player for england And Man U it was injuries that did for him. But don’t underestimate just how good a player he was.

he’s a global name I don’t see how you could doubt that

I'm not doubting it. I've clearly said above that Juninho would have heard of him. He was also a very good player (not Bobby Charlton levels though). Your average Brazilian wouldn't have known or cared about his injury record though, and would have seen him play a handful of games in the 1982 and 1986 world cups, nothing more.
