Unai Emery rejects the Geordies.

BBC reporting
Howe and Paulo Fonseca appear the possible alternatives for the Magpies who, according to Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague, have already seen approaches for new Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, Barcelona legend Xavi and ex-Germany manager Joachim Low turned down.
They really are the comedy show with never a dull moment. :ROFLMAO:

I said this the other week, but the first post-takeover manager will have a hell of a job on their hands. They'll have to be able to turn them around with what is largely a relegation threatened squad because the club won't be able to just buy all these superstars that people are predicting.

Tbf, I know we think it will be funny if they go down, but actually that would probably be the best thing for the new ownership....clean slate and all that. Will be able to get a Nuno type to chuck money at getting back up and then on the wave of optimism be better placed to challenge. Relegation probably provides an opportunity to get rid of players.

Exactly this. If you're an established Manager like Emery there's no way Newcastle would look attractive and worth going for.

Graeme Jones (his wife is a Boro fan from Stockton!) - has already indicated that he will be kept on as assistant manager - that means either Eddie Howe (and he wants the southampton job) or Roberto Martinez and his got the Belgium job ......

Rafa is doing his best to get goonered and a pay off from Everton.

they will not want to get relegated.

if i was them, id be looking at Sean Dyche and Steve Stone (geordie), 5 year deal - bring 6 new players in during January - let about 12 go out the door.

a big name flash manager wont want it, cos theyre looking to bring in a director of football and that spells trouble for a manager, once the DoF is in place and £ 1/4 billion has been invested in the 1st team - it becomes a different proposition and scenario.

from the outside looking in, they should have backed Steve Bruce, and give him genuine quality players in Jan

If Watford hadn’t of got him first they would of ended up with Ranieri.
Ranieri is probably the type of manager they need. An old hand who has proven themselves elsewhere and wouldn't be fazed by the size of the task at hand or the impact it could have on their future employment.

They're in quite a difficult position. I don't think it can be underestimated the moral stance a lot of managers will take re: this appointment. I can't imagine Joachim Lowe ever agreeing to work with the owners for instance, regardless of what he was offered.

Also seems that Emery wasn't offered what he wanted - what could he possibly have insisted upon that they couldn't provide?! I'm pretty sure the risk of managing a club with even more deluded fans than Arsenal probably played into his decision as well (plus his previous negative experiences in England).

he WOULD save them and build a very strong squad with the funds available.

Wasn't he Chelsea's first manager after they became mega wealthy too?

He was, got the chop at the end of the first Abramovich season, but set them up in the Champions League for Mourinho next season

I heard they jumped the gun leaking to the press about Emery being close to agreeing....Emery was still in talks, so told them to do one. Perhaps Staveley doesn't know as much about football as she does about venture capital and Lightwater Valley?

It's gone from Conte to Eddie Howe in the space of two weeks😂

I doubt any 'major' gaffer will touch it until they are safe. You can have all the money in the world but both City and Chelsea were starting at a far better level and squads.

Newcastle are literally a cr*p side full of champo players bang in the middle of a relegation battle. The window don't open for another two months. They could he nearly down by then (look at the fixtures and pick a game they will win).

Don’t think the fans are on the level of arsenal, to be honest I’ve never heard anything unrealistic from many of their fans, most just want to compete

At least Arsenal fans can remember brilliant title winning sides in the last couple of decades.
