Ukraine - invasion underway

There is a simple fact in all this that we can’t beat the Russian army it’s just too strong and putin knows this so all this talk of troops going in is futile this isn’t iraq or Kuwait this is the most fearsome military machine on the planet in size of volume and arms. Ukraine will fall it’s to what extent and how fast there the only real issues now.

So what will the the world look like afterwards.

I guess it would depend on whether Abrhamovic has proven links to Putin?

Either way I can’t see anything happening to him, or the many other rich Russians in London for obvious reasons. Just like with the Qatar WC, where money is involved a blind eye is conveniently turned.

You’re right about Nemtsov, several countries have renamed squares and streets around Russian embassies after him, including the US I think.

I’ve still not made it to STP, covid twice has lead to cancellations but I’m hoping to get there in May provided Europe isn’t a smoking ruin by then.

I think Russia have a large proportion of the world‘s hardware (nukes), but in terms of personnel they are some way behind China and the USA.

As for the invasion. If the media have known about planned invasions for weeks imagine how long various intelligence agencies around the world have known about it for, and it's still happened. Why.

Not so sure. Already he's been refused a Visa. He's a headline catching figure...... exactly what the Tories love.

In Numbers maybe but their ROE are a lot different as the Russian army is known for its ruthlessness look at Grozny. Then factor in the AirPower and the navy it’s an incredibly imposing force.

Very true. It was very propaganda driven but I watched a recruitment campaign for the Russian Paratroopers a few weeks back. They all looked like Ivan Drago

They kind of have a point with that first quote you linked. What would the American's do if Russia put missiles in Mexico, Canada, Cuba and the Carribbean?

From what I hear it’s the quality of troops and training that’s often the issue, they haven’t always had it their own way either - they overran the Georgians but I’m sure they got a bloody nose.

One of my favourite sayings that I always forget the exact wording of is “Russia is never as strong as you fear, but never as weak as you hope” - I’m paraphrasing a tad there but it strikes me as accurate!

Yes, Russia needs China more than China needs Russia, they could be a very convenient pawn for China in the coming years.

Russia should be integrating into a strong Europe and looking at Pacific alliances, because with those massive cities just over the border and population and resource needs, China could stroll into the largely uninhabited far east of Russia.

Real Politik. Unfortunately it’s part of the idea of what ‘ tolerance levels’ of dead the Russian public are willing to accept. As long as the propaganda keeps working it will be ok. If that begins to fail.
It’s no longer the Soviet. It was also quoted by the Ukrainian politicians.

Setting a great precedent with "it used to be ours, so it should be ours again" when a huge portion of the Russian Far East used to be Chinese.
